What the heck are the side quests. Is it the things the notes tell you to do like kill the bugs or shoot all of the cornerstones? I have not seen anything telling me how to get to them.
Also, off the topic though, how do you mug people?

Side quests aren't really quests in the sense the term has been used in other games. They are just things that crop up from time to time. As an example
If you break into your landlords room the first time you reach the city, you can read in his journal about how he's being blackmailed and has to leave money in a certain spot every day. Every day you can now visit that spot and pick up a bag of money.
There is a conversation you can overhear, where someone is pretending to be Garrett, taking a commission to steal an item. You overhear what to steal, where to get it, and where to leave it. If you acquire the item and drop it off where the employer wants, you can go back later and there will be money in the spot.
You can find a note on a wall in a certain place, asking for your contact to get someone to go someplace and dispose of a body. If you go dispose of the body, money will be left for you where the note was.
You find by reading papers in a certain place that an organization is having a problem with undead in their graveyard. A bit of investigation will reveal the source of the undead. You can either kill the sorcerer doing the animating, or discover his goals by reading his stuff. If you accomplish his goal for him, he'll go away and the undead will stop.
These don't show up as goals to be checked off. Sometimes they don't even give you a reward, beyond personal satisfaction. But, you can still go do them.

I see. Thanks. I'm going through the game again and I want to do all of the 'side quests'. I did a few the first time through. Thanks for clarifying it.
