hey,

I have a Geforce FX 5200 with 2.66 gigs and 512 mb ram and Thief is running sluggish on all the effects turned down and on 800 600.
I was wondering if changing the mouse lag threshold from 75 to 0 would help this lag, becuase i remember it did for deus ex.
Can someone tell me a step by step process on how to do that?

How do i get to default.ini to change the mouse lag thresh?????

Hey, before you go and try to rewrite the way the game was meant to be played "out of the box" make sure you have V-Sync checked. I know that some other people say that this will slow down your FPS, but I have the same card as you with the same 512 RAM and the V-Sync being enabled for some reason made my mouse movements and my character's in-game movements in "sync". Worth a shot.

That's a terrible idea. Vsync should be off for most people, and the mouse lag should be changed to zero.

Unless you like a laggy mouse and slow frame rates.

The game developers did a half assed job of polishing this game, and so it's up to us to do it, which is the purpose of these forums it seems.

Chris, what kind of video card do you have? I just took notice that the person who started this thread has a very similiar comp setup as me and was telling them what I did to solve the problem. So, in a sense, your telling me that what I did to fix my problem was not a good idea, when on the contrary, it was a great idea, cause it fixed my problem. Sorry, but I just have to make sure that if anyone reads this post that has a similiar comp setup as me and the post starter then they would try what I suggested, since it worked for me, not that it will work for everyone, but it's worth a shot. You can always uncheck the option.

Open "default.ini" using notepad in the Thief "system" folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\Thief - Deadly Shadows\system). Use notepad's find feature from the edit menu to search for "mouselagthreshold" in the document. There will (2) instances of it - change them both to =0

Change

MouseLagThreshold=75

to

MouseLagThreshold=0
