You're not alone. The full game does it to some people too. Some folks it does it every 5-10 minutes. For me it's every 1-5 hours heh.
The people who've posted about the problem seem to have a mix of different systems. No common denominator (no obvious one anyway).
But sadly I have no clue what's causing it or how to fix it.
Hopefully it's something they'll deal with in the patch...if we get one.

That really isn't enough information. Try posting your DXDiag report (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28948).

There isn't anything obvious there (other than not having your monitor driver installed). However, I fixed my crash problem by removing my PCI sound card (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) and used the onboard sound.

Um, as you bought a Compaq, I suggest you contact them. Ask them whether your motherboard has onboard sound.
If it does, ask them how to disable/remove the Audigy so you can isolate whether it's the cause of your problems.

I've downloaded the demo twice, both times it shows corrupted files in the demo install, also turns off and back to desktop about 1 minute into the game probably because of the corrupted files, way to go eidos!

does anyone have a fix for this? i really want to get this game and if the problems not just with the demo id like to know before i waste my money
I have the same problem (quit to descktop within 3 mins) when I try to up the graphics settings a bit, but with 800x600, minimum detail for textures and shadows and low quality textures on then its fine. So it might help to play around with your settings.

no that didnt help, i had the same thing as Skull Gun btw about 3 possibly corrupted files all sound files i think although i only tried getting the game from fileplanet none of the other d/l sites worked
I got a corrupted file error from my fileplanet demo, but I'd downloaded it from somwhere else and that worked fine. I wasn't talking about the errors from corrupted stuff before, just the random quitting to desktop which I think is unrellated.

Where did you download the other one?
I think it was from filefront:
http://files.filefront.com/3090442
it has queues like fileplanet, but no registration required. And if it was the one I use it was pretty much as fast as fileplanet.
I just opened up all the links in the mirrors thread on this forum and tried them all (good old mozilla Firefox and tabbed browsing :) ), so I'm not 100% sure it was that one, but think so.
