(very light spoilers)
I mean, yeah, it's only a game, but still, you do do some not very nice things. It definantly makes you think twice.
In the last mission I just played, not only did this woman just lose her husband, she is going bonkers and I stole her blind...but somehow (not sure how exactly) I managed to kill her cat. I mean that's just cruel. Poor woman.

I haven't gotten far enough into the game to deal with the morality of it, but when I played Knights of the Old Republic dark-side I didn't have any problems with what I was doing at all until towards the end.

I was in a house in the city and I heard the guy crying about how he's starving and going to die, and maybe he'll beg for food down by the hammerite temple and stuff, and I felt sorta bad when I was reaching for his glinty loot, but then I figured, if he's to dumb to sell his glinty loot and buy some food then he probably doesn't realize it's worth anything so he won't miss it anyway, hehe

Guilty? Nah. If you're going to feel guilty about thieving don't buy a game called Thief, eh? Personally I love creeping around whacking guards with my blackjack and stealing anything I can get my hands on.
Nah...
Most of the time im pretty well behaved but some guy walked by and made a comment about me bumping into him and before he even had a chance to walk away I had stabbed him in the back and threw him into an alleyway.
I figure Garrett is kinda sensitive like that ;)

Garrett: "Oh, poor guy. I almost feel sorry to steal from him.
... ALMOST!!!"

I left the woman the loot she had in that chest. You even get a note in your journal like...
She needs the money to live, but she doesn't need the "gold thingy"

The problem is, on expert you can't leave it for her becase you need 90% and it is 12% :(
and yeah even though it is just a game I felt kinda bad about it too. but I was not about to restart the mission on a lower diff level.
