View Full Version : Sound problems on XBox

When I play Theif3 on XBox the sound cuts out after a while. It doesn't happen with any other game so I don't think its the cable.

I debated on getting the PC or XBox version. I decided on XBox due to the fact that I bought Dues Ex for PC and it was buggy so I traded it for the XBox version and it ran rock solid. Now I made the same choice but with a bad result.

Anyone else have this happen? It seems like this forum is mostly PC users, but there is no way to contact anyone for tech support for the XBox version.

It is disappointing that the console version would have bugs. Xbox can patch it, but there is no excuse. I will test it some more and see what happens.

I do love the game. :(

I am not getting any of these "lots of sounds" problem on mine. And I use a 5.1 setup... the sound is great!

Forgive me for asking, but what is the "5.1" setup?

Not sure :o

5.1 stands for 5 speakers and a subwoofer.

Rear left/right
Front left/right
Center (often the voice speaker)
Subwoofer

A game, DVD, whatever with 5.1 support outputs separate channels for each speaker. This is what allows you to hear a bird behind you on the left, a car behind you on the right, a voice from the center, and whatever (I'm out of cheesy examples) from the two front sides. The sub is there for vibration, you know, rocket ships and stuff. :)

I'll assume the X-box version (which I don't have) is probably the same, but in the PC version there are no "Audio" options to tweak your sound system. I think I'd try using some different speakers (though I really doubt that's the problem here.) Aside from that, I'd take the game back and get a new one if ya can. Could have a 0 in the wrong place or something.. <shrug>

Mine also cuts out at various places. I let a friend try it out on his Xbox and he had the same problems. Most notably, the Prison level. The audio cuts out after you escape your cell, and never returns. I joined this forum because of this issue eto see if any other X-Box owners had this prblem, and to know if Eidos has a way to fix it. The audio cut out a couple of other times, just can't remember when at teh moment.

the sound has cut out on me several times, mostly during the first four missions. as a matter of fact I haven't had any more problems for the last couple of missions. anyways to answer your question a lot of people seem to be experiencing this problem (just look through the other thief 3 boards) and the only explanation that seems right is that it is a problem with the older Thompson drives (first gen. xbox). I have a first gen xbox and almost everyone else that has posted about this problem does as well. the only work arounds are to save and reload your game or wait until you load another area.

I have had the same problem. My Xbox is less than a year old so it isn't just the old ones with this problem. It mainly cut out in the prison and has been fine since. I fould that reloading my game fixed the problem.

I suggest taking it back and trading it in for the PC version if you can. There will eventually be a patch for the PC version (Crosses fingers.)

Ok here's the solution to the sound glitch error where for no reason (and yes it has happened to me in the prison level). At any point even after the sound goes away save your game and immediately reload it, your sound will be back and everything will be fine. Now also keep in mind there is a bug in the game (I f-ing hate bad bug testers!) on XBox that you cannot save your game, to fix this problem just enter a new area and you should be able to save from that point on. It may also help to put on subtitles at this point if you do not use subtitles so you can "hear/see" guards talking in close areas.

Hope this helps guys :)

I'll have to give that a try. I have been too busy this last week to play, but I'll try it. Thanx a lot for the heads up!

The problem only seems to occur in certain areas... or at least it is more common in certain areas. The Prison is HORRIBLE for it.

Unfortunately, this sound problem is a bad mix with the "reload the game and revert to Normal difficulty" problem.
Fortunately, the sound problem has never occurred for me in a "real" mission.
