When i updated my graphics drivers i didnt look to see if my bus was AGP 8x...come to find out it was set to PCI !
I re-installed my nForce MoBo drivers and it reset by bus to AGP 8x...The game runs like glass....
If your having the problem with Choppy Cinematics...Check your Graphic Cards Analog Display, Look where it says BUS, If it says PCI then you dont have full AGP use of your card... Reinstall your Motherbord drivers and it will reset your BUS to AGP and viola...

Mmmm.... where do you check those things? My WinXP is in french, and it indicates a PCI BUS when I check the details of my vid card...

I'm also looking into this right now....I think this could fix alot of problems. (Hey Saber, can you make up a more detailed description of what you did?)

Actually. You can find the Motherboard Drivers (nForce) on the NVIDIA.com site. Go to Driver Downloads, select Platform/nforce Drivers - Unified Driver - then you Operating System, and follow the directions that are given with your freshly downloaded Driver. (We might get to play this thing tonight after all!)

Mine isn't an nForce, so I guess it won't be an issue, still worth investigating on my side....

I notice that that is a nvidia driver, or at least on their page. Do you know if it would be the same for an ATI card? Or should I just reinstall the motherboard drivers if I can find the CD it came with?
I checked the card's location and it mentioned something about PCI BUS 1.
I haven't yet bought Thief but I had this problem trying to play the newest Hitman demo not too long ago. The videos played like ass.

All with Choppy Intro Movies and the Like - Check you Display Properties for your Graphics Card go to: Settings->Advanced->YOUR GRAPHICS CARD. Look at what is says after Bus:. If it says (PCI Mode) then you don't have full AGP support and will need to upgrade your Motherboard drivers.

It says PCI Bus 1 for me as well, but I have no idea how to change it, reinstalling SiS AGP drivers does not seem to provide any change.

I applied the technique described in the current forum subject, and I was pleasently surprized at the success that ensued. I now know what you have all described as "smooth as GLASS" - TEAL'C from StarGate SG-1 impression, come on, it was good, admit it.

Kildred, gota reinstall COMPLETE MOTHERBOARD driver update, not just AGP.

Unless you mean flashing the BIOS, there aren,t no 'complete MB drivers' for my ASUS except the AGP ones and the integrated sound card.
I'll look and tweak around on my own, I ran NVidia's little utility to check used AGP memory and it isn't using ANY currently, which makes me believe it's not using AGP.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO FLASH ANY BIOS....just re-install your motherboard chipset drivers (my chipset happens to be the nForce chipset on an Asus motherboard A7n8x to be exact).
All i did was pop in my asus motherboard CD, and re-install the nForce drivers when the CD splash screen came up, restarted windows and i was off and runnin...
--------
Exact write up on how to check your card's BUS settings...
1. right click on desktop and hit properties
2. settings tab
3. advanced button
4. "your video card" tab ( my video card is Geforce FX 5900 ultra so it is a Nvidia Geforce Tab)
5. Look at what is shown next to the adapter "BUS" settings
6. If it says AGP 4x or 8x already, then this writeup wont help you,
***BUT If it says PCI then you will need to re-install your Motherboard Chipset drivers (pop in your motherboard disk and just re-install the drivers)***
7. restart comp and play away.

To check if it was pci or bus on my computer i had to:
right click the desktop
choose properties
choose settings tab
click advanced
click the adapter tab
click the properties button
and under Location it says: "PCI Bus 1" at least for me.
I reinstalled the motherboard drivers just now and it still says the same thing, so it didn't change the situation on my computer. Maybe because it's ATI maybe because it's the motherboard i have. A GigaByte KT-400.
I'll try messing around with the rest of the drivers found on the motherboard drivers disk, I installed the 4in1 for the chipset and thought that was it, but there were still 4 more options of drivers, two of which were just USB crap.

The first page on this tab will give u a breakdown of your card.
ATI
Right click desktop

Will tell you current mode its running in

it doesn't have smartgart for me. it's like my computer doesn't want me to know if this is the problem or not...aahhh. I did a search for smartgart and found an icon for it, I double-clicked it and nothing happened. Is there any other more technical way, like modifying my bios...or something?

Which ATI card you got? the smartgart option has been there a while in the drivers now.

Hi been scrolling around looking for an answer to my video problems, that seemed to be running through whenever I played a game using bink for their videos.
I came here and my AGP was fine, it wasn't set to PCI. But looking on other forums, some other person with the exact same problem as me got an to one of his posts, that was the solution to his trouble.
Well it worked for me too. :)
I thought i'd just come here and post this to see if it helps anyones problem here.

Make sure both your soundcard and VIA "4-in-1" drivers are up to date. "4-in-1" drivers are chipset specific and include the IDE BusMaster, IRQ Routing, AGP, and USB drivers IIRC.

where can i find those drivers for my nvidia nforce2 400/mcp motherboard?

www.nvidia.com, click support (top right), then drivers, then "platform/nforce drivers" in the left box, then "Unified Driver" in the middle box, then your OS in the right box, then click go under the left box, download and install :-)
Just to let you know, some people have had problems with previous versions of the IDE driver that comes in this motherboard driver pack (not sure about this new version, if you have problems just roll back the driver to the windows IDE driver), also, disable IN YOUR BIOS the audio and network card and USB if you are not using them, or else it will install those drivers (even if you have them disabled in windows)
