Good lord, I do look forward to T:DS. Thief has always been my favourite game. Before Thief, there was Half-Life. Before that, Duke. Before that, Ultima. Before that, Zyll (I will give a million dollars to anyone who's even heard of that one.... a real-time, 1- to 2-player text adventure game).

For me, Thief is the true American Idol of video games. The terror of the Haunted Cathedral. The action of the Lost City. The suspense of Framed. The epic sweep of Life of the Party. The grandeur of that final mission in Thief 2, whatever it was called. Not to mention the wonderfully ridiculous allusions to WAAF disc jockeys (Boston-area Thief 2 players may know what I mean).

I am dying to play Thief: Dark Shadows. I am like a child on Christmas Eve, unable to sleep lest I slumber through that all-important morning. I am like a Star Wars super-fan, waiting in line at Mann's Chinese Theatre for three months, praying that George Lucas has maybe just one more good movie left in him.

I am like a thief in the night, peering through the museum window, waiting to steal away with the greatest treasure in the City.

Until we meet again, I remain Simon.

American Idol of video games!? You compare our beloved Thief to a TV show featuring a bunch of singing losers!!!!?

Anyways, everything else was good :D . I too am looking foward to T: DS with a passion. My current MSN name is T.Smith - "X days until The End of Worlds.". The X is the number of days left. Only 8 more to go!

I hate reality TV, especially anything with 'Idol' in the title but Thief... I picked up Thief2 two or three years ago after seeing it in the shops for ages and finally deciding I may as well see why it had been on sale for so long, (It still is too.) and was instantly gripped. The plot was fantastic, the gameplay was something I had *never* experienced before and the amount of freedom to explore and be creative about finding a soloution just sealed the deal. I soon got Thief 1 and the three discs of 1 and 2 got pride of place in my CD collection. I hardly ever go without one of them in one of my drives.

(Though this doesn't prove much of a problem as I have three - soon to be four - CD drives. Long story short, it's because I'm cheap and only buy the least I can get away with. Started with 52x CDrom drive, then got a 32x 8x 4x CDRom drive, recently got a DVD 48x 16x drive due to Thief3 threads and UT2K4 and I have a lot of stuff I badly need to back up so soon I will probably need to get a DVDR. I have a stupid way of doing things and having a G: drive is just confusing. With the camera and new drive that'll stretch to I:. I'd get rid of the old ones but it makes multiloads easier and it's an excuse to be quite sad.)

In short, they form the best series of all time for me.

Hey Simon. I am from the Worcester Ma, area and noticed you made a reference to WAAF. Could you tell me the names of the disk jockeys and how their names are incorporated into the story. I know Looking Glass was located in this area, but had no idea there was any allusion to the local radio station in the game. I have been listnening to WAAF for far more years than I care to admit, and am really curious. Thanks.

BTW; WAAF started in Worcester and not Boston and although it's still a pretty good station, was much better in the "olden" days!

In "Shipping... and Receiving" one of the office managers is a J. Osterlind. John Osterlind was a DJ on WAAF back in the day. There was also a reference to Mistress Carrie, though I can't remember where. May have been the same level.
