"Eidos' 'Thief Deadly Shadows' Steals May 25 Ship Date in North America (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040505/sfw071_1.html) is the announcement that ION Storm's third installment in the Thief series begun by Looking Glass Games is complete for both PC and Xbox, and expected to meet its planned May 26 in-store date. Here's a bit:

Thief: Deadly Shadows places you in the role of Master Thief Garrett, the quintessential anti-hero that steals from the rich and keeps for himself. In Thief: Deadly Shadows, Garrett finds himself assisting the Keepers, the secret society that trained Garrett in his youth. He is tasked with preventing a prophesised Dark Age from coming into fruition. Thief: Deadly Shadows was developed by Ion Storm, creators of the critically-acclaimed Deus Ex series.

Thief: Deadly Shadows will continue the Ion Storm tradition of open-ended emergent gameplay the studio is famous for. The freedom to choose a unique play style is what sets Thief: Deadly Shadows apart from any other game further immersing the player into the adventure. Thief: Deadly Shadows features a powerful physics system, startlingly smart AI, enhanced character modelling and animation, a groundbreaking sound propagation system and state- of-the art lighting and graphics for which Ion Storm is famous for."

There was quite recent interview with Mr Spector speaking of World Wide Release. What is the EU release date?

According to this German movie (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37520), the Euro-release will be near the end of June...:(

Why don't they make it more realistic? All the cops and security guards I ever met weren't what I would call "Startingly smart."

Is this release date for both the PC and Xbox versions? I've seen a few sources say the Xbox version will be released later.

As Warren Spector posted here: (http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showtopic=209874)

The Thief: Deadly Shadows team is in the final days of development. And thanks to some insanely hard work by an insanely dedicated team, it looks like we're on-track to make a simultaneous release on Xbox and PC, in English, French, Italian and German!

Yes, when released in EU it will be all languages at the same time on both platforms.

We all know that we citizens of the U.S. don't speak English. :D We speak American....hehe.

In the last "simultaneous console and pc release"(DX2) it was really just one version, the console version. In my, and several others, opinion that limited the pc version's potential. Is thief 3's pc version just going to be a carbon copy of the xbox version?

For those of you hoping for a demo before the game ships, this is from the TTLG visit:

Here's the deal with the demo: There won't be one before the game hits the shelves. They want to do a demo. They know what the demo will be. They know there needs to be a demo. They just don't know if they're going to be able to, as father eidos has not put a demo into their to do list as of yet.

TaeKhan, in one word.... no. T: DS PC and Xbox are different. The PC version takes advantage of a PC's more advanced capabilities. From TTLG members who have played the game, as one example, the textures for the PC are much better.

This is a great board. I read the specs needed for the Deadly Shadows and I'm fine on everything but the video card. I"ll be off to my local computer store to pick up a new one. Thanks for the info!

Now I have another question. I live in Canada (no, it's not snowing!) : ) and I'm wondering about the "North American" release date. I can order the game from a US site, but it typically gets held up in customs, then gets held by the post office if there is any duty that needs to be paid. Does anyone know if that release date really means simultaneous release in Canada? Thanks

As far as I know it should be in Canada a couple of days later.

Thanks. I'm moderately reassured. : ) Fortunately, my I'm helping my gf move so I'll have "a couple of days" to spare. After that, I'm on holiday and "out of the country" for a week. : )

Yay!

What about the AUS release date? Hitman was rather nice in that it came out here a couple of days ago (perfect timing for my birthday in 2 days time) and thats like 2 1/2 weeks difference.

Isn't the voice-quality of dubbed version almost always much worse than the original?

No, the German Version of Thief 1 and Thief 2 was excellent :)

It's really a matter of taste. I played both the english and german versions of the game, and thought the german Garrett sounded... I dunno... petty?

Then again, I can't think of any game voice localisation that lives up to the original. I always opt for a cinematic localisation (subtitles).

Never understood that with Germans - do most of them actually prefer dubbed movies over subtitled ones? IMO dubbed movies always suck, can' t watch it!

Is not only in Germany - it's in France as well.
I was a bit annoyed at the beginning, as I had no German skills and I simply couldn't watch TV, but I got used now.

But I guess it's about comfort. When you grow up watching dubbed movies, it's not so easy to follow up subtitles. A friend of mine from Orlando told me that are people there compained about the latest Christ movie - they simply found "impossible" to read the English subtitles whilst watching the movie, so it's not a ethnic problem.
