DXT Compression

Can somebody please tell me what is "DXT Compression". Does lowering it, increase framerate or decrease?

There should be a slight increase of the framerate if you have it enabled. Newer cards handle compressed textures faster than uncompressed textures (and it saves videocard memory too).
