OK, the patch is well and good, but what about the mouse lag and the choppy video? Are these going to be addressed in the near future?
My Specs:
NVIDIA GeForceFX5600 256MB
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512MB DDR
Motherboard with 400mhz FSB
Why would a game play choppy on this system??? Especially when it says it is supposed to run on a pc that mine would put to shame....
Thanks.

Do you have post filtering on? Do you defrag at all? Do you have any programs at all running in the backroudn while playing? Is your computer running all the time? A few things that could make your game more choppy.

Mouse lag is caused by post filtering.. it has to be disabled. The patch doesn't overclock your video card. THey're not going to fix that issue since their recomendation is you just need a faster video card to use post filtering. I think you need like a fx 5900 with 256 to get it to run decently..

No need for 256 DDR of ram, just faster clock speed. Runs smoothly on my Radeon 9800 Pro.

I have an geForce card... but what is post filtering an how do I turn it of !!??
The patch has a few fixes, but it doesn’t fix the antialiasing issue! I just want to post my experience. I contacted Eidos support about not being able to get the antialiasing to work, here is what I wrote,
“I just purchased Hitman Contracts for the PC and am having video issues. I
can?t seem to get antialiasing to work. I have a GeForce FX 5900 video card. I
have set the antialiasing settings to all combinations, including 2x, 2xq, 4x,
6xs, 8x, and application controlled; nothing works. I reinstalled my Hitman 2
game to see if I got the same problem, but everything works fine in Hitman 2, no
jagged edges at all; nice and smooth. But, with Hitman Contracts, everything
looks jagged. I also noticed that there is no in-game antialiasing option in
Hitman 3 like there is in Hitman 2. The visual quality of the game without the
ability to use the antialiasing feature really hurts the image quality. I am at
a loss as to why antialiasing works on Hitman 2, but not on Hitman 3. I looked
for a patch or some support on your site, but there is nothing posted yet.
Please let me know how to enable antialiasing for Hitman 3.
Thank you.” Here is what they wrote back,
“Greetings Vince,
Thank you for your message. I haven't had any other users reporting this
problem, although the game has only been out for a week. We are still gathering
info on known issues. All I can suggest is make sure all settings with Graphics
Options are maxed out. Make sure to click on MORE OPTIONS and raise those as
well. All except for "Post Filtering". This needs to stay at Medium. It will
cause problems with Sniper rifles if it is set to high.”
I find it hard to believe that they haven’t heard any other users reporting that they can’t get antialiasing to work. I mean dang man, Hitman 2 had antialiasing and that game looked great! And why would they sacrifice something like antialiasing and use post-filtering instead? Post filtering doesn’t even do anything worth while. Heck, the game looks better with it turned off! I also like how my whole concern was about the antialiasing issue, yet the guy told me to put all my other graphic options to max, as if that would help. I have a friggen geforce FX 5900!! They ARE all on max! Why does this game even have the Nvidia logo on it if one of the most important graphical options can’t even be used!? I would like to know everyone else’s thoughts.

Clearly you havent dont your research...
Post Filtering it IOI's strange term for 'set this to high to make the game use your £200 video card'... in otherwords, it uses that marvel of graphics technology, the pixel shader, to create graphical effects like distance blur, motion blur, hazing, soft light and other stuff in hardware...
if you have it set to Low or Medium, the Barkhov level doesn't even look like its a heavy snow storm because you can clearly see a building miles away... once set to high, boomph, blizzard that you can barely see 10ft in front of ur nose...
And the reason the NVidia logo adorns the game is cos EIDOS is one of the many current developers to pay that bloody company to display that ****ing logo :)
It doesn't make the game any better on NVidia because it carries the 'Way its meant to be played' logo... hell, UT2K3 carried that logo... nuff sed...

Not really having trouble with the patch. And not going to complain.. But it seems on some maps, after I patched the game up, some Textures seem to start Melting.. Its odd..
What could that be from?
Never happend before the patch.. Again, im not complaining. Just wondering. Aside from that the game runs fine now.. :) Thanks Eidos!

Research has nothing to do with anything. Intuitively, one can see that post filtering, which you say is technical talk for, “'set this to high to make the game use your £200 video card,” doesn’t really have that good of an effect. I don’t argue that it creates “graphical effects like distance blur, motion blur, hazing, soft light and other stuff”, my point is, the “blur” it creates doesn’t really do much to enhance the graphic quality, in my opinion. All it seems to do for me is blunt the colors and make things harder to see. But putting in the post filtering is not really a big deal, what is a big deal is that they have included post filtering, but have taken away the antialiasing. I “do” have a fancy $200 video card that can do some good antialiasing, and In my opinion, Hitman 3 has regressed in the graphical department because they have removed the antialiasing. I mean, c’mon, the game looks all jaggie now; not the smooth flow of Hitman 2, which was released 2 years ago! I have heard that the reason the antialiasing was removed was because it doesn’t work with post filtering. I personally would rather lose the “marvel of graphics technology” that is post filtering and have good old antialisaing instead. I paid 39$ for Farcry, which had major modern graphical elemnts ; I paid $49 for Contracts, and the game doesn’t even support a major graphical element that the two year old hitman 2 had.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around (the paying).

What about the Scandinavian versions; they're in English but there are the three Scandinavian flags and the Finnish on the Cd-cover, does this mean that it doesn't need a patch, or does the
English language make it an UK/US version?

vit0, if its such a boon, why not just force it to be turned on in the Forceware drivers?
Sure, you'll get a silly performance hit, but if its what you want :)
Also, paragraphs are good... use them ;)
and @m, you're probably right, but given the bad press NVidia recieved all last year for various reasons (cheating drivers, releasing a distinctly crappy card, etc.) id be surprised if they aren't handing the brand out willy-nilly...
Plus, it only started appearing in games when ATI actually overtook NVidia in the graphics market share :)

Forgot to thank you for that one... The overclocking solved my issue.
Heero, I have tried forcing it in the Forceware drivers; it doesn’t work. I even tried changing the DrawDll to Renderopengl.dll instead of RenderD3D.dll, that actually worked and turned on antialiasing, but it caused texture issues and many effects didn’t work.
I have a good video card and I doubt if I would get any performance issues at all, even if all the bells and whistles did work. In fact, I can run Hitman 2 with AA on 8x, anisotropic filtering on 8x, and all the effects on high and have no performance hits at all. Hitman 3 is basically the same game in the graphics and effects department.
I’ll take your suggestion of paragraph use to heart.
Also, spell checkers are good… use them. ;)

but what im saying is, if you look at a LOT of games recently released, they dont support anti-aliasing due to the performance hit from pixel-shader use...
Halo PC (damn its hide) doesn't work properly with them enabled...
Far Cry suffers a huge performance hit unless you have a super-rig...
Splinter Cell gets Z-buffer issues...
etc.

Heh, yeah, I was wondering about that.
Didn't realize I finished the game 'till I saw it in the save games list. BTW, shouldn't it say "Saved Games"?
Too bad they didn't fix the bug that sometimes causes an arm or a leg to go a bit crazy, when dragin' a body.
Or when in a corner and someone is following you, sometimes I got stuck, had no where to move, but I tryied runin' which helped in one case and the other I just killed the man.
Did this ever happend to you?

that'll be the ragdoll physics...
Heero, I know what you’re saying, but I don’t think that is the issue. There are some high powered cards out there now, and people want to use them. If the issue was just a performance hit issue, they should just give you the option to turn the settings on an off. Splinter Cell 1&2, Halo, HM Contracts, they just strait took it out! You don’t even get a choice.
My theory, and I call it a theory because I have evidence to back it up, is that games developed for the Xbox and ported to the PC don’t have AA. It is not a hard fast rule, but I would say it’s 90% true.
Since most companies want to have their games on the Xbox, and the Xbox has a specified amount of graphic power. It is easier for them to develop the games using Xbox specs, and then port them right over. I think that is why we are seeing a lot of the new releases don’t support AA.
For instance FarCry, it support AA fine. It wasn’t simultaneously released on Xbox. The game was built for next generation cards, and doesn’t run to well on outdated systems. But at least they give you the option to have AA and all the other bells and whistles.

actually, the Xbox is not the culprit... it supports Anti-Aliasing out of the box because it uses a modified hybrid of the GeForce 3 and 4...
The GameCube features an ATI-built graphics chip, so also has anti-aliasing as standard...
he culprit is the PS2...
its Emotion Engine chipset cannot do Anti-Aliasing out of the box, and developers have to add it themselves using the tricks (like when NVidia tricked 3D Mark into performing better on their cards with driver hacks)
And the reason Far Cry was no simultaneously released on consoles and the PC was because even tho the Xbox is the most powerful console in non-vapourware existence, it still has a mere 733mhz Celeron-based processor and 64mb DDR ram...
if they just placed Far Cry, which needs a 1.2Ghz P3/Athlon with at least 512mb RAM to run correctly, onto a DVD and slapped it in, it wouldnt work...
The game has to be reworked to fit in the smaller memory space and optimised for the slower (but more efficient) processors... (basically, they cut some of the high-level pixel shader detail out and make the levels smaller)
i have ATI raedon 9200 after installing the patch game still crashes on the menu startup screen .same problem .plz kindly respnde me does there would be any other new patch for that again....
Ah yes, the PS2. I had forgotten about that. Probably because my PS2 barley works anymore and all I use it for is playing movies.
Well then, whether it is the Xbox or PS2, my point is still valid; if they keep making games with consoles in mind, we’ll never see anything truly mind blowing for the PC. FarCry finally pushed the envelope and so will Doom 3 I’m sure, but then what?
Hopefully, the Doom 3 engine will do what the quake engine did and, and be used for many upcoming games. Then we can actually get some use out of our high end video cards.
BTW, I still think they need to put AA in to contracts! ;)

Doom 3 has no chance of pushing the envelope... its now being released simultaneously for the Xbox...
Half-Life 2 is the one to watch... regardless of Steam and the pathetic reasons for delays, its still the game to watch...

Soz but it may be better for you to uninstall hitman and defrag your system first ......then reinstall hitman ... but dont be too hasty !! at the end of the set up untick the start game option so that you return to your desktop. Now you can install the patch. Also it will depend on your PC spec but it may be an idea to go into options in the main menu then select extra options and switch of post filitering.... this should help :)

Actualy, Doom 3 for X-box is using a modified engine that will allow it to run on the console. The PC engine will still kick half-life 2's ass in almost every way.
From what i've seen, Id made the game and then gave it to the X-box develpoers and told them to turn it down a notch. But the X-bow version is not going to affect the performance or abilities of the PC.
Don't think of it as a port, cause the only thing that's the same is the story.

unlikely... Half-Life 2's engine is designed with wide open spaces, multiplayer and realism in mind...
Doom 3 has an engine thats really no more complex than Far Cry or Thief : Deadly Shadows...
Frankly, im only looking forward to Doom 3 as a good blast... its not going to rock anybodies world like it would have done a year ago...
Far Cry has nicked the next-gen thunder and Half-Life 2 just looks so... wow... Doom 3 just looks to be the most straight forward and fun :)

I just bought the game today and installed the patch, as I always do. I managed to get to the third level on expert with SA rating without consulting any walkthroughs. Yay! I just started the third mission and have only 2 problems so far.
In the third mission, when the snow falls down, there appears to be very large vertical translucent rectangles sometimes above some of the characters. these seem to have dissapeared after restart.
Another gripe I have is the save game system. I liked how in The original codename 47 you could create character profiles, so if multiple people were using the computer or if you wanted to play differing diffuculty levels you could under seperate profiles, whilest keeping the save games tidy. Why did they take this profile system out? They have it in Freedom Force, but not this one :(

try dumping yer temporary files. if you dont know how you can find a stepbystep in the thread called "no saves?" or somethin like that. how many megs is yer fx5200? thats prob not the problem but maybe. do you have directx 9.0b? if all that doesnt work, then maybe you could just uninstall and (re)install (might wanna back up yer saves if you have any)

Hi all
Has anyone tried to walk down a ladder and fell down instead? Have you noticed how it messes up your controls, so at the bottom when you try to look in another direction and move forward, you actually move in a completely diffrent direction?
Just curious about it being a bug or just me...

hmmm, Suddenly we see similar problems that occur in thief 3 ..
how do you actually email eidos ? they must have lost about 500'000 fans during this nonsense
I am (was ...and might still be) a MAJOR level hitman fan
EIDOS ! - if you are crouching - and you look at your map - and try to escape the map whilst holding the crouch key - it crashes your computer
there are full shadow masks all over the place - especially in the watchtower if your looking at sniping towards the submarine ..
oooeerr graphics people ..
mouse lag - and no I wont be buying supercomputer stuff - make these games for me ! and people like me - with ordinary p4 3gig - 512 ram - XFX NVidia Geforce FX 5900XT 128MB DDR 8x/4x AGP - aaaaarrrrggg !

I'm getting a crash every time I finish "The Bjarkhov Bomb". The sub sinks, I make it back to the plane, and as soon as I hit the ladder for the exit point, the screen fades to black like normal, but instead of seeing a cut scene or anything, the game crashes, and Windows asks if I want to send an error report or not. The error.log shows the same message every time it crashes ("Continuable Exception" / "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION"), and its the same message that appeared in another older forum topic, posted just before this patch came out. I am running the 174 patch, so I'm not sure what's going on. Are there any other fixes available, or anyone else experiencing this? I've disabled EAX and reduced sound acceleration in dxdiag. I've saved the game at the point where I 'm in the plane and all I need to do is approach the ladder, so I can do additional testing if you'd like. I don't see a way to attach files, but if you need my error.log file, I can email it.
