this is a fresh install immidiatly after reformatting my whole computer. i have not even started a game yet, havent even opened the game yet and i get that error "old file not found, however file with the same name was found"
i tried this patch before i had to reformat and recieved the same error. i am wondering if the file on this site has become corrupted. no other patches or texture packs installed.

i just read your response, thanks for replying. only problem is i havent installed any patches or text packs to the game as a matter of fact i just reformated my hard drive and installed the game, then tried the 1.2 patch. i tried uninstall reinstallthen patch still get message old file not found. im wondering if i have a different version since i only bought it a few weeks ago. i would think its the US version since i bought it at wallmart.

It's evident that something got screwed up during your first attempt, and that's causing the continued problem. Let's try this.

Uninstall DX:IW completely. Remove all related files and directories. Create a backup copy of your registry files (just to be on the safe side). Run regedit, search for all entries with Deus Ex, and remove the related keys and subkeys.

Reinstall DX:IW and try to apply the patch.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what to do.

thanks for replying again. it seems to be running fine w/o the patch i just wanted to see the improvements if any. but all of the registry keys were wiped when i reformatted the hard drive anyway. like i said thanks for the responses though.

i too am having this exact SAME problem. i posted it here a long time ago and have just now done a reformat. i have installed only drivers and windows security updates before installing the game. telling us to change the registry will not help anything. a clean reformat computer should install just fine. the fact that this problem is being reported by at least one other user leads me to believe that the problem lies within install shield and some security features on the CD.

deleting registry key sugestion: i tryed this BEFORE the reformat and still have the same problem. after the reformat i get the same error. i would not suggest telling people who report this problem to do this.

I read somewhere around here that user.ini file in game's save folder is responsible for such errors.

Perhaps you want to rename or change location of the save game folder during patching time?

I don't know where you are from, Xlander, but if you are in the UK like myself, then there is no need to patch the game because the game disc is running the 1.2 version already.

I had the very same error when trying to patch the game when I first got it until I realised I didn't have to patch it at all!!! In fact, doing so corrupts the game and you have to reinstall...

yup some guys may not need to install the 1.2 patch cos it's already installed w/ the game when u bought it.
eg, if your from singapore ya probably using the european version meaning tt it is already the 1.2 version.
