I haven't seen or heard of any news about a demo for T3.
Does anyone have any info on this?
I personally would like to play a demo for the game before dishing out $50 for something that I might not even like.

If there is ANYthing new about demo this thread (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36351) will certainly be sticked to the very top of this forum.
All in all i think this forum will be swarming with posts when (i didn't want to add IF here, but... ) the Demo finaly comes out.

Hi Apache,
Would like to see one myself but it may not happen. I have read that Warren Spector and company felt that the demo for Deus Ex IW kinda burned them in a number of ways. To my reading they were originally going to make the demo for DX IW one or two of the actual missions, or at least part of those with the training stuff. But instead they made a demo you saw. And they got a world of flack on it as you know.

It wasn't really that the mission was a bit different than the actual game mission that caused the eruption though. At least not in my opinion. The T2 demo was not exactly the same mission as the game and that was not a problem. Just FYI, I like DW IW. Not what the first one was but still I have fun with it.

Still I read somewhere that they are somewhat leery or gunshy in my words of a demo. No ideas if we will ultimately get one or not. I haven't heard anything other that that. But whether we do or not or what we might get will most likely be shaded by the DX IW thing.

I bet they get the game as right as they can for Thief 3 though. They aren't dumb over there by any means and for sure heard the outburst. Some of that complaining stuff was real junk to me but some was dead on as well.

Personally I think T3 is going to be much closer to what we hope than DX-IW.

How insightful, or prophetic. ;)

I'll read that as official EIDOS confirmation that there will be no demo, Redlegg. :(

Say it aint so! Where did you see this? Please provide a link!

/start drunken rant/ If so, then I can only see this as they don't have enough confidence in the game to release a demo. I've been denying that eidos/ion storm have sold out to the console 'must have inane violence' mass market crowd but I fear that our beloved Garret will be a merc, ready for battle. This would be sad, very sad.

Sorry, I'm drunk, but if this is so, I'll be very upset. I mean, I can still play the game as I see fit, ghosting and all, but the origianal 'fun' of thief (for me, anyways) was doing what you could with what you had at hand, a 'forced' acceptance of the circumstances at hand. To make this more lenient then comprimises the 'value' of what made Thief "Thief".

I will always cherish the fact that, usually, you could not confront more than one guard at once, and even one could take you out (or cause enough damage to make you wish you had not tried). I considered each arrow before I used it. I thought about each scenario, the stratedgy that would be best to accomplish the goal without being seen. I learned from the mistakes and adapted. If I now realize that, in playing the Thief 3, I could just go "rambo" and defeat 4 guards at once without being severly hurt then I'll be highly let down.

I hope this is not the way, but from what I've been reading and seeing I fear the worst. Am I a victim of the negative murmur that has surfaced?

I really hate to propogate the fears that have surfaced in the past (and now) but I've been biting my tongue, hoping that it's not true. I really am a Thief fan, it's one of the best games I've ever played. Developers: please don't exploit the name for a sell out...

The thing is, it wasn't just the demo that burned them on IW. It was IW that burned them. If they want to convince people that this is a good game and not more of the same, then they're going to need a top-notch demo. I know there's numerous people on this board that arn't going to buy it untill they either get a demo or hear from people who do buy it.

I will not buy this game without playing a demo first.

Orumph..um you might want to edit your comments a bit.

But I just figured it would be a good idea to release a demo to put all the uneasy ideas to bed and show that T3 is going to be alright.

I started playing thief because of the demo that I got on a demo CD.

Well, since he didn't bother, I did it for him.

Orumph: a little too disrespectful there.

LOL, about 3 years ago, I dug up a demo disk from 1996 or so and started playing stuff. Finally got around to installing the Dark Project demo, and thought that I had died and gone to heaven. Wanted to give the demo to a friend, only to find he had the full version. So I got a copy of it.... till the cd died! Then I went and bought 1&2 as a bundled pack (wish it had been Gold and 2, but oh well) for $20. Now I am waiting for 3 to come out, and I hope to be able to play a demo.

Sorry for the ramble, but that is my story about the demo....

I understand how Eidos may be leary of releasing a demo after the horrific gameplay they put forth on some of their older franchises (read Tombraider).

But, the best way to launch a great game is with a great demo. I played the Far Cry demo, loved it and bought the game.

I played the original Thief demo, loved it, bought the game.

On the other hand, if the game sucks then the demo will suck. And, when they don't release a demo I just assume the game sucks.

So, please release a demo and soon. I am really looking forward to an enhanced Thief franchise. I sincerely hope the management shake up is not indicative of internal development problems. When i read that they may not release a demo and I hear the head of development bolted, I get a sinking feeling that this will be a less than exciting experience.

I was relying on a Demo because there are already rumours that certain recent graphic cards won't be able to live up to the job....a demo would've been useful to ensure that I can play the game with my present kit, or would tell me if I needed to upgrade.

Really surprised that there will be no demo.....??..(scratches head)....

I bought Deus Ex as soon as it was released in Australia as a direct result of playing its demo. It was a decision I did not regret.

On the other hand, I bought Thief not due to a demo but due to recommendations made by other gamers. Unfortunately by the time "word of mouth" reached me about these games, TTLG had been bankrupt for quite some time.

On the other other hand, I avoided buying Deus Ex 2 due to its demo. It also failed its second-chance draw of review by gamers I trust, so DE2 is one game I did not buy, despite the fact that its prequal is in my list of top 3 games of all time.

In conclusion, a great demo will guarantee I buy the game.
No demo but a great game will most likely result in my purchasing the game, albeit at a later date.
Its quite obvious what a bad demo or game would result in. :D
