Why'd they delete that scene where Powell samurai swords that old guy who betrays Lara and all that.

Was it to save time? Or they thought it was too violent or creepy for some audiences like kids or something?

Probably the latter. They may have feared that they would be given a 15 cinema release. They may have later been told that the scene could be included on a 12 DVD. It is also not that necessary to the story. We dont need to know what has happened to him.
