Hi, Deus Ex 2 comes out in around 10 days, and i was wondering whether the majorty thought if it is worth me buying it. i was a big fan of the original game, but have been slightly put off as it apparently is not as good as DX1 and does not last very long.

Id appreciate any comments, responses from you guys!

If you didn't like the demo, then no. If you thought it had promise, then yes. It works better as a standalone game rather than a sequel to Deus Ex.

Huge performance problems and so much lacking from the original as far as game play. This was developed for the mindless 12 yr old X-Boxer. There is no challenge to be had even on Realistic settings.

Play the Demo. If the Demo gives you problems and you don't like it from that. You definatly won't like the game. The Demo is a dead on example of the problems of the entire game.

If all you are looking for is eye candy. Well, this game has a some. Not a lot and not worth the price tag in my opinion.

You should wait for the Eu release, and see what people think of it.. Maybe it won't have the flaws that the US version has... Ion Storm said that the game will be better... Will see, but I surelly hope I will change my opinion of the game, which I was so looking forward and got so disappointed... :(

In my opinion, the demo does not give you an accurate picture of the whole game. The technical parts of it, yes, but the demo is an extremely small section from the full game. It's not even a compulsory mission in the full game: it's entirely possible to skip that map entirely. It doesn't show the best parts of the game or the worst parts of the game, so I think it's pretty useless as anything but a tech demo.

It does give you an idea about the gameplay, though. You can finish the demo in a number of ways, by killing everyone, by killing the greasel, by sneaking around and collecting all the money in the level, then betting on the greasel fights to pay the debt. There are many possibilities, and it's up to you how to finish it. The full game gives you those sorts of choices all the way through.

I'd give Deus Ex 2 a 4/10 (and DX1 a 10/10). I knew it wouldn't run great on my PC, so I didn't care about the performance issues. Even the way the game is watered down to play more like a run-and-gun fps doesn't bother me. There are two things that bother me:

1. It's watered down. Waaaay down. To the point where the terms "X-boxing" and "pulling a DX2" have begun to be used. Small maps, low quality textures, no sound options, and less configuration options are only the beginning. The games lacks most of what made DX1 great, and it just lacks depth in a general. Sure, you talk to a few NPCs. But there are no real sub-quests that mean anything. There's very few choices. No more skills and less augs. Oh, and the game is really short. In a bad way.

2. The other thing that bothers me is that the game just isn't that good. I never found the story to be that interesting, not nearly as much as the first DX. None of the characters are really likeable or hateable. Nothing like JC, Alex, Tracer Tong, Walton Simons, and Bob Page. Sure, one or two of them make an appearance, but they just don't seem as ... good. The places you see don't seem exciting, and everything seems a little contrived (same two coffee places are all you see at every location in the game). There's just less of the little things that helped to make DX1 good.

So my bottom line is if you REALLY want to see what happens with the DX universe and you have some spare cash and can get this game for $10 or maybe even $20, go ahead.

What Zoma says is true. Forgetting all the usual complaints about performance and universal ammo etc, there really is nothing special about this game. If it wasnt for the huge let down, the best word to describe DXIW would be 'forgettable'.

I played it once, for 15 hours, saw most of the game. Began to replay, realised that I wasnt actually going to experience a whole new game as the hype suggests. Then I lent it to my friend Neil in full knowlede that he is the kind of friend who never returns things. And I didnt care.

There are good points, but not quite good enough IMHO.
