I posted this on another thread, but for some reason, whenever I keep pressing the space bar when I am loading, or going to another level, the game does not crash! When I don't press it, it crashes. Try it. I don't know why it works, but it works...

I've set up some candles and incense around my computer, and make a small offering of cold coffee when I start the game. I think that's helping too.
Mine also seems to crash more when the moon is full.

Whenever I wear pants on a full moon, I always wake up the next morning and they're ripped and torn all over the place. Except for sweats, it doesn't happen with those. It's the darndest thing.
EDIT: oh wait, I get it. That took me a while.

I read your post earlier, and I'll lend my support to this.
THE SPACE BAR STOPPED MY GAME FROM CRASHING!
I dont know how it does it, but it does.
Pressing the space bar after, and until it loads into a different area prevents the game from crashing. For me it shows my task bar, and flicks from desktop to game when it's done loading, until I click with the mouse. Then it works fine.
After trying this I played DX for 4 hours without a single problem!
Before I started doing this I was crashing 9 out of 10 times when loading a save or going into a different area.
I forgot to hit the spacebar one time while loading (after having played fine for a while) and that was the only time I crashed.
All hail the Spacebar! Deus Ex Savior.

Tried it, no luck. Only Debug mode saved me, but that causes hideously long load times and also causes the game to switch to the desktop while loading levels/savegames.

Something to do with th ion launcher stealing the focus from the game window I think. Maybe mashing a key will keep the focus on the main window while the ion launcher starts up.

It sounds to me like the "invisible dialog box" syndrome. I'd wager a dialog is requesting user input, like "error reading CDROM drive, retry?" and is crashing if there's no user input. That could be it even - with SecuRom, there's supposed to be an error reading the CD, that's how the copy protection works. Too bad we can't see what's on the desktop.
I wonder, you guys for whom the spacebar fixes your problems... Is there anything in the windows event logs about Deus Ex? Also, when a level is loading, hit the "PrtScn" key, then exit, open up ms-paint or Photoshop, and hit Edit-Paste... See if it takes a screenshot of anything interesting that might be going on behind the game window that we can't see.
