View Full Version : Game Lengths

Let me just say that I have not finished this game yet, but it seems to me that people who refer to in game timers have missed the point. It cannot give a true figure as to how long the game took to finish. I know people take into consideration being killed, reloading levels, doing things a different way etc.....but I reckon that on average it will probably take 40 - 50% longer than the in game timer says. I love (PC) games and would rather finish a good, well constructed, involving game in 10 hours and still want more, rather than trawl through a really long game - get bored and feel it a relief when I finally finish it.

Let me say that you're a brave man ;)
well, u are right.
BUT....
to finish a game like this in 11 hours (and i havent reloaded that much) is kind of joke.
although i understand this was not because of the story, but because of the difficulty level. this game is way to easy.
i played it on HARD and i could easily take out everyone ( if i had to) with ONE shot. well, except the heavy armored templars, but they went down with 3 hits from the rocket launcher.
and this was supposed to be the HARD difficulty level.

I agree.
Would ppl rather spend 300 hours (Baulders Gate Style) and loose the will to live, or spend just a few hours of absolute bliss. If you finish, try it a different way!

I tried that, I went back after beating the game and killed everything/everyone, it realy does not make a difference in the story line or plot much, you can always continue on no matter what, disappointing in a way that it does'nt have more of an effect on the game.

10 hours is just way to short 20 is what they should of aimed at. Soon your going to buy the game play and hour and then have to pay and additional for expansion packs

I think it depends how you play it.
First time through for me using no stealth (while I was still bloody annoyed with the game and its performance) took 8 hours 30 mins
2nd time through (still annoyed, but played on realistic) took just over 7 hours
I am currently playing it through for the 4th time but I am doing so without killing anyone and by completing as many sub missions and side quests as possible. I have only just got the mag rail and i have hit 3 hours 10 minutes.
So you can get out more play, and therefore length, the more effort you put in.
Personnaly this arguement about the length of the game is a bit weird. I have never spent more than 8 hours on any action/FPS type game (and at the end of the day, this is an FPS with a load of otherstuff strapped on) so this seemedabout right to me:)

You never played the first Deus EX, did you? Anyway, IW took me, it said, 13 hours, but it definitely ran about 20. I think the in game clock is broken on my game, and i loaded a lot. I thought the length was pretty good, but longer would've been better. Still a phenomenal game, though.

'Scuse me? Had the game from day of launch (actually before)and have played it through over 20 times.
It does not take that long to complete (unless going for stealthy-as-all-hell approach).
I simply play games a great deal (both on PC and 7 different consoles), both for pleasure and work (I am a beta tester for 3 different organisations) so I tend to get through them quicker than most.
....not played Deus ex... sheesh....

damn my in game counter said 17 hours after one ending! I thought I was a decent gamer too!
Crap, then again it dawned on me. A few times I just hit escape and left it there while I ate dinner. If the timer kept going that counted for a few hours.

Well, I was extremely disappointed when I finished IW in just over 18 hours, with completing every sidequest, searching every nook, acquiring all the secret weapons, etc. I played the original the first time in about 60 hours, and was hoping for more of the same. I like longer games: I do NOT like the feeling of shelling out $50 and finishing a game in a week of light play.
