1. Why is there a paradox at the end of SR 2 when the Blood Reaver penetrates Raziel, but not when the same thing happens at the end of Defiance? Is it because the wraith blade had uncoiled into the physical blade before penetrating him in SR2 due to Raziel wielding it instead of Kain?

2. When Kain and Raziel both start glowing in Avernus before Raziel "discovers" the Heart of Darkness, is it because Raziel's wraith blade is trying to purify Kain the way it did at the end of the game, but was not yet properly endowed for the task?

I wondered about that as well. It pretty much seems like a mistake since the reaver that Kain has is the Blood Reaver is has Raziel's soul in it already so it absorbing it's own soul would cause a paradox like at the end of SR2.

I don't recall the glowing, sorry. I do have a question about Mobius glowing in another cut scene though and that deserves another post.

1. I dunno, but my guess is because that fate couldn't be changed since Raziel accepted it. But then again I dunno.

2. The blade is not purifying Kain at that moment. The wraith blade, to my guess, is using Kain as a conductor to transfer Raziel into the BLOOD (NOT SOUL) Reaver. I get this idea since Raziel is fading in and out.

I believe Raziel's eyes were glowing because he was getting angry and somehow the Avernus increased it until he had the HoD

Check for answers below. I can see many of you did not pay attention in Soul Reaver 2.

The first thing you need to understand is that in Soul Reaver 2 Raziel was changing history as opposed to making it. In Soul Reaver 2, Kain was supposed to be killed by Raziel at William’s Chapel and Raziel was supposed to go inside the Blood Reaver at the Sarafan Stronghold. In that game Raziel was struggling to change the Wheel of Fate, by exerting his will over that of history. At the end of that game when Raziel was prevented from going into the Blood Reaver to create the Soul Reaver, a gigantic time distortion was made, a huge paradox, bigger than any before, as Kain puts it, the edge of the coin!!! This allowed Raziel to regain his lost free will; Raziel is making history now not changing it. Raziel decides now what is going to happen. When Raziel ran into the blade in Soul Reaver 2 he had to fight against the pull of fate and history, in Defiance he just has to fight against becoming the Soul Reaver, there is a huge difference. Kain even says in Defiance that Raziel is the only with free will and Moebius confirms Kain’s words.

For your second question, yes you are right, but there is much more to what is happening at Avernus Cathredal. Raziel and Kain are connected. Check out this thread for answers.
