Game loads to black screen

Just installed the game and upgraded the Cat 3.9 drivers. When I double click on the icon, the game starts, then the screen goes all black except for the in-game mouse cursor. When I alt+tab out, I can briefly see the menu before I go to the desktop. Then, when I end task DX2, this error comes up:

Are you running debug version of dx at all.. does it say all retail under dxdiag?

me too, the screen goes black and nothing happen.

I just see a new sticker on my game box, saying : Graphic card: 128Mb, GFX or better.... I'm going to kill someone!!!!

Just fixed my problem. Apparently when I was going through the INI tweak guide posted over on the IONSTORM boards, I did the following as well:

-Open DX2UI.ini
-Go to [DebugMenu] heading
-Change "Active=" to:
Active=ACTIVE


Once I changed that back to the default setting, the game loads up fine now. :confused:

Needs to be taken out of the tweak guide...

Same problem here. I tried turning movies off, and got to a gui screen where a "loading" progress bar advances. When it reaches completion, a headache-inducing pink strobe light effect starts up. I can use arrow keys at this point which generate little beeping sounds (scrolling through some kind of menu I presume).

P4 2.66 GHz
512 MB RAM

DX9 SDK installed (would this cause any issues?)

Interesting... my problem appears to have been caused by the debug runtime DX9 SDK. I uninstalled the SDK, re-installed, and selected the release runtime, and now everything is spanky.

Is there a final answer?? I can load the game but also get the "black" screen, equipped with operating compass, voices and "wire frame highlighted boxes" (which I can "right click to pick up" and "left click to throw") but I cannot see what I am picking up or throwing let alone see anything else... HELP!!!:confused:

The same thing happened to my screen... I think. The screen was black, and when i looked around, the screen would change from black to blue to darkish green. I then went to Options, and Video. After this, I unselected the 'bloom' option. This fixed the problem. Keep in mind that by changing the screen resolution, the bloom feature gets checked again. This causes the screen to go blank once again.
