View Full Version : Boss encounters

I believe that there are inevitably going to be some enemies that are harder to defeat than others. After all, the developers have stated that you are not the only nano-augmented agent in the world. Clearly you can choose a path where you may have to fight one or more of these beefed-up baddies. However, there are different ways to set up battles like these.
In my opinion, one of the things that took away from the immersive realism of DX was the fact that Simons would be willing to confront someone all alone who has roughly the same abilities as him. It's one thing when he walks into a cell with a pistol to interrogate a couple of unarmed NSF guys with UNATCO troops standing 10 feet away if anything goes wrong (one of my favorite scenes in the game). But why would he confront JC alone without an escort. I know that he was arrogant, but he wasn't stupid.
Anyway, will DX:IW have more realistic encounters? Will they find some clever way to insert believable boss battles, or will they follow the traditional Quake/Doom/Unreal/Wolfenstein (just to name a few) mode where the player is lured into a giant open area where door then closes behind them and the door ahead magically opens when the boss is killed? Will it be something in between?
Any thoughts about what should be or has been done regarding bosses?

bosses weren't really a problem...I just used a gep gun as they try to run up to me and talk...some could be avoided too...they say that you don't even have to fire a shot to beat the game...

ur right u can complete the game without firing a shot but u'll need the riot prop, grenades (u throw em not fire em), combat knife, sword or dragons tooth and throwing knives, BE cells, speed enhancement, cloak, spy drone and microfibal muscle.
all of these r needed to complete the game without fireing a shot:D
This took 6 days to work out so it should work and if it dont its ur fault not the tactic.
Yes i agree the bosses where 2 easy and id like to have a greater chalenge inDX;IW.

I seem to recall more than one interview where Warren stated that a playtester had made it 2/3 of the way through the game WITHOUT EVEN PICKING UP A WEAPON. That's a bit different than not firing a shot. Personally, I hate boss fights. And, I didn't consider Anna, Gunther or Simons to be boss fights. They weren't hard.

in dx we didn't always have to use our guns to kill. DX gave us another way of defeating prominant characters in the game; the killswitches. Bob Page, the true boss, had 3 different ways to die which was excellent (was three ways to die or just 3 ways to end the game?).
Simons, we know had to be shotup. But i think that was good for gameplay. it showed that sometimes, we're not going to be able to say a word to kill somebody. and it really added that, "you've been in my way too long Denton" feel to the situation.
NO WAIT! There was another way to kill Simons, you could of electrecuted him! i forgot about that. There was a power switch for the rails on the floor. I don't know. I think i tried electrecuting Simons once and ended up killing myself.
Anyway, there is another way for killing Simons incase you haven't tried it. (i'm sure DXIW will offer us even more inventive ways of killing people)

Or you could just run past him.

No need for the combat knife, sword or throwing knifes. The augs are necessary though and the lams for blowing up the ship etc. You can go through the game without hurting anyone except killing Anna (There seems to be some grenade throwing trick to get her to open the door in UNATCO HQ, I never was succesfull at that) and rendering Howard Strong unconsious.

I was talking about dx2 when I said that you don't even have to fire a shot to beat it...

Simons? He went down with a single Dragon's Tooth swipe.
Had to get past his constantly firing Plasma Rifle to do it, mind. But still... :D
