The choice of which sex to play as is up to you, which wasn't possible in the original Deus Ex due to the thousands of lines of speach. Originally the development team were going to experiment with things such as giving males higher strength, but better conversation options for females, but this was discarded, and the sex of the player will factor into less than 10% of character conversations. Other cosmetic details, such as hair colour, style, skin tone, etc, will also be left to the player's choice.

awww...i wish they had left that stuff in the game. but they had their reasons.

And one of the reasons is there are people who don't want to give up some traits they would like to use and don't want to break immersion by choosing another gender either. I'm one of these people. I would give up some of my character's strength fore better conversation choices but I wouldn't play as a female char since I see it unnatural to play a character that's of a different gender than the player. So, I appreciate their maintaining minimum changes.

Im confused this reminds me of Baldurs Gate (an RPG of great emertion) as a human character would b stonger than an elf and a man stronger than a woman and so on. but the game was epicly long and couuld only just fit on a dvd but took up 5 cds.

but yes the first game was great and im glad that they didnt change it.

tha felling of 'im a guy but my characters a girl' does nt matter as its a mind set you can play out your personality as you want boy or girl.

got to go end o break (im at school)

IF THERE WHERE NO GOD IT WOULD B NESSECARY TO INVENT HIM

I think those afore-mentioned gender differences would have been a bit... I don't think I'd go as far as "sexist", but there would've definitely been something unfair about it.

The males have higher strength, but the women are better at converastions? Some might say that this is true even in the real world, but I think it could be perceived as a bit stereotypical. In addition, if people were to play one gender with said changes, that means they'd be missing out on the benefits of the other gender. Sure, they could just replay the game, but I think it's better overall if the differences between genders were not so distinct, and instead the player could experience constrasts on a more subconcious level.

Just my two cents... :o

I'm a guy, but I kinda liked the idea of "better conversation options". Using "feminine wiles" (cute little euphemism for seduction) to get past some guards and what-not. Could have definitely added to the ability to play through the game on the dark side!. :D

well it woulda added some more realism to the game but oh well theres plenty of stuff to make up for that i hope. im kinda scared though with all these negative rumours going on about IW. i hope that it doesn turn out to be another tombraider with deleted content and stuff. :(

Why don't we just assume they spent the time improving the game for both genders rather than making different choices based on gender.

You're wrong there. Females and males had the EXACT same stats in Baldurs Gate and BG 2 ( and in NWN, for that matter).
