ok, this has been bugging me for a while. is it just me or have other people noticed games magazines giving all the praise to eidos for creating Tomb Raider? i mean, it may be a bit of a stupid thing to get pissed off about but if the games industry is gonna give out credit for good, successful games, make sure it goes to the right people! i think eidos are great but im not quite sure what role they have in the Tomb Raider games. they publish it right? but what does that exactly mean. why cant core just develop and publish the game on their own?

I have always wondered the same thing. It seems to me that Core puts in all the creative time.

Core Design is the company who should be getting credit. They develop the game. That means, they create the levels and the characters and make the software that is Tomb Raider. Eidos only publishes the game. Publishing means that they license the game so it's not illegally produced, and can test the game to make sure it works properly.
Core Design may be owned by Eidos, but they are still independent, meaning they can make the games THEY want to make, not just requests sent in by Eidos.
Sounds to me like the magazines need to start double-checking who makes the software, and who only licenses it... They've got everything mixed up!!

Core can indeed make the games they want, presumably why Eidos purchased them, as they are very good at it.
But they still have to be published by Eidos.
They aren't really that independent. They can't release a game under another publisher, or without Eidos' final nod.
