Hi,

I thought I came back to pay y'all a visit again; however the true nature of my re-appearance is actually the urge of a having to ask you all a question; I truly hope you can help me here. Thanks already in advance.

Does anybody know where and how I can download the following things:

* A VIDEO of the 20th Century Fox logo like one can see at the beginning of every Star Wars-film e.g.

* A video of the Lucasfilm logo like one can see at the beginning of every Star Wars-film e.g.

The thing is: I'm making a Powerpoint-presentation for my grandmother who will become 80 this year and I wanna make it a bit like some sort of a movie; since my grannie used to watch many films in her younger years (although she's still interested in films these days)

I hope you can help me and thanks already in advance,

greetings,

bye for now

I may have a way but some questions first :

1. Do you have a good-speed computer ?

2. Do you have a video editing program ?

3. Do you have the films (on VCD or DVD) that have the logos you want ?

1) Don't worry, I bought the fastest computer on the market only a couple of months ago.

2) I'm sorry, but I don't think I completely know what you're talking about

3) I sure do! I've got the two Star Wars-films on DVD and many other films produced by 20th Century Fox but somehow I can only pause the DVD, take a picture and put the sound only later on, but that's not really what I want. What I want is to find a way to get the actual 20th Century Fox intro as a short video + the same for Lucasfilm Ltd. And so far I haven't been able to copy anything from my DVD to my harddisk (I use the DVD-program "PowerDVD"), unless ... I can use "Ahead Nero - Nero Express" to somehow copy a part from one of my DVD's to my harddisk ... i don't know whether you know this program, but normally I use this program to copy music to my cd's.

Can you really help me ... I would be forever grateful!

Hope to hear from you soon!

bye for now

My mistake..... I should have typed "software" not "program"..sorry....

Video editing software is well uh... a software to edit video of course !!! Eg. Adobe Premier (i have it but this software need a really fast computer)

But heck, that software cost so much so we want freeware or shareware, don't we ? :D

One of the useful and easily understood Video editing software is TMPEnc. It's a shareware (I still have 1 day left !!!). You can download this at http://tmpg.pegasys-inc.com/download_files/TMPGEnc-2.521.58.169-Free.zip
If you can't download from the link (1.6 MB) then search on Yahoo! for the program..

Now to get your hands dirty..

I used this method using VCD and to create VCD (it's legal, it's for home use only :D ), so as you see I didn't use DVD because I don't have one (we don't have DVD player, only VCD). But I doubt if the method is different. So either you want to use VCD's that have the logos you want or try experimenting with the DVD.

Anyway, here's the steps :

1. Browse the VCD using your computer. You will see some folders. Open folder named MPEGAV and you will see some files with ".dat" extensions. Select the desired file, right-click and select "open with..". Select wmplayer (Windows Media Player).

2. Once you found the file that contains the logo, copy it to your hard drive, and watch it with your Windows Media Player. Write down the time :
a: the logo start
b: the logo ends

3. Close Windows Media Player. Now Open TMPEnc. A project wizard will appear. Select the output you want (NTSC or PAL, VCD or DVD). Since you're making a powerpoint presentation, choose the options below Video CD. It will create ".mpg" (MPEG-1) file which is perfect for PP presentation. Now Select "Next".

4. Browse to the folder where you copied the ".dat" extensioned file on your hard drive. In "Files of Type" select "all files". You will see the ".dat" extensioned file. Select it and click next.

5. Now you will see three boxes. Tick the "Source Range" box and a window will pop up. Press the "Forward button" (this is not Tomb Raider ! :D) to the time of the beginning of the logo as you have written down in step 2. Click "Set start frame". Now press the "Forward button" again to the end of the logo. Now click "Set end Frame". Click "OK" and click "next".

6. In the next window, select the output media you want to use (We're not burning it, but since we want to create mpg files, choose the VCD/SVCD media, just for the sake of quality :D ). Click "next".

7. Here, you can specify the location for the output file (it will output it to your hard disk). Click "next" and it will start encoding.

8. There you go, you got yourself the clips !!!

Remember.. the above steps works best with VCD. Notes for DVD :

a) In Step 1, try to locate a file(s) that have BIG size. That must be the file. (I'm not sure about the extension).

b) In Step 2, I don't know if Windows Media Player can play the DVD file but you may try, If not, try replacing it with other "software" :D such as the player you mentioned : PowerDVD.

c) In step 4, once again I don't know if TMPEnc can play DVD files without it being converted first but once again.. try....(remember to select "all files" !!)

I used this "software" (almost typed "program" there for a while :D) to create MPEG-1 files of all TR : AOD movie files (interviews, trailers, commercials, FMVs) that's been stocking up on my computer. Then I use Nero to burn them on VCD. This software ouput the file faster then Nero (if you create VCD using Nero you have to convert the files to MPEG0-1 files first AND THEN burn it.) Now I watch them over and over and over and over.....

Ok that's all...uuu..quite long...hope you understand it and good luck on making your presentation..

Send my wish to your gram and maybe you can post some "trailer clips" of your presentation .. :D

Adios...
