I've run my favorite missions about 100 times with most others 50. I'll bet you haven't found all the ways to accomplish missions. 1st forget about the time, ranks and being detected hogwash and enjoy the missions with all the time you like to devise tactics and movements. The wonderful thing about C2 is the fact that you can do it so many ways. Even if it's just moving to one building or place 1st and out of "gameplay for best time" sequence.
"Feature" one commando and do as much damage as you can till he needs help. Be wreckless and take chances. Oops that guy got killed trying that. Quickoad! A commando gets killed? So what? Continue to see what the others can do. If inferno gets killed, say, remember a rifle shot can set off exploseives dropped near a target. Even if you only have one guy left have him go to the end even if the mission doesn't automatically end.
Go into a mission with the idea to be seen by as few enemies as possible to accomplish mission goals- Forget the bonus books! Kill as few enemies as needed. Next time kill every enemy on the map. Who cares if it takes extra time. Shoot a hell of a lot more and forget the punching sillyness.
Like in Colditz you can start out any of the commandos 1st and let them kil, kill, kill till they can link up with the others. In Savo use the cannon to blow hell outta the Japs just for fun.
Bottom line is just try different and unorthodox ways of doing the mission without regard for any programmer's time score, or looking at the dumb merit stars. You'll get more milage out of C2 for sure.

Why is 100 times crazy for a GOOD game? Everyone complains about longevity of the "fun and challenge" in a game. In C2 there are myriad ways to complets missions from many approaches. If you played missions once you missed the strength of C2's scope. In Paris and Das Boot there are so many ways to accomplish a mission it is staggering. I can't fathom what you mean by you are to lazy to play C2 missions that you only ran once.
Running missions by the accepted hints is redundant. Get creative. There are dozens of ways to just enter the sub base for example. Riding in the truck is the most boring way. You'll get plenty of mileage out of C2 if you try. :D
