This is something we've been talking about in AP Gov't every now and then.
Do you think our society as a whole is becoming too politically correct and not wanting to insult people?
I think that we are becoming too P.C., and in the end we end up insulting people by trying to be too careful.

(I don't know why I'm just now randomly thinking of this. lol Whatever I caught on Friday at the football game must be affecting my thinking too much. :p)

Oh yeah, I do. There's a comic stand-up I liked on Comedy Central that dealed a lot with this, I think his name was Carlos Mencia (not sure if that's the last name) and he made some really good points, while being hilarious.
Anyway, I do think we're too PC. We're so afraid of offending people that no one can speak their mind anymore, for fear of hurting someone's feelings. We can't say thing A, because it might affect minority group B, and we can't say anything towards goup B without ofending groups A and C respectively, etc.
Then again, I also think we've all become wusses. Look at all the people in therapy now (not saying anything's rong with that), whereas in the past in wasn't nearly as popular. Now, sure, everyone deals with the problems through help, but some go for practically no reason and if anything is said to them, it hurts their feelings, causing more PCness.
I also think that this is part of the reason for school shootings and the like. Parents are no longer able to punish their kids, and so they are out of control. I'm not saying you should be able to beat your kids, but I do think spankings should make a comeback. If I got a spanking, and my dad made it count enough, then the next time I was doing something that I knew would bring out the belt, I would reconsider. If I knew the possibility was there, I would consider my options much more. Nowadays, there's no threat of punishment. What are they gonna do, send me to my room (with all my video game consoles, dvd players, cd players, tvs, etc etc)? That's not a punishment anymore for kids, so kids have no reason to obey their parents, so the morals they should be learning are now minor suggestions.[/rant]
Being PC has gone waaay too far.
