OMG..over the last few weeks I have bought the dumbest games EVER in my life...£120 worth in total, as well. I kept saying to myself - NOoooooo stop don't buy that, you KNOW you will not like it, but I was bored....
This is what I've bought over the last few weeks...cringe:
1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (...!! zzzzzzzzz, but surprising tricky in places because of silly controls - Game Cube. What a rip-off)
2. No One Lives Forever (Yet AGAIN I think I'm up for 1st Person Shooter....Why, WTF, I NEVER NEVER can play these games....but in the shop....the back ALWAYS reads sooo well)
3. Ratchet and Clank (This is such a cool game, but will some one please come round my house and get me past the shoot the bomber-ships level....I can't do it, I'm sstuck half way through the game and can't get any further and I LOVE this game, sigh)
4. Zelda - Legend of including Windwaker and Ocarina of Time (Hmmmm, this is supposed to be the bestest game on the Game Cube [Thank God I have a Playstation...I mean, really this is 10/10??])
5. Sypro the Dragon (2). This I bought for mindless entertainment and I've gotten stuck on the second boss. I can't kill him. I thought this was for kids???!!!!!
There was nothing in the shops and I wanted something to district me, so I took a chance on 5....games (it would have been more folks, but Woolworths didn't have all the games that I "wanted" in stock that week....phew!!!) All in all these games have cost me too much money and for one reason or another I can't finish them :(
Anyone else had a week of bad buys where you're desperate to play something and end up like me buying 5 games to take up more space in the cupboard?? Cheer me up someone, what's the worst games you bought and the shortest period you've played them for?
Currently my record is - Zelda. Cost £40. Played 2 hours. Unlikely to play further (unless someone convinces me it IS that good). So, £20 per hour.... (about $30 per hour - US)...Sigh
:)

so far I have been lucky. The suckiest game I mistakenly bought was Timeline the Micheal Cricton (can't remember the spelling but you know who) game from his book.
I have spent $50.00 on hotdogs and gotten better value. :D

Hmmm, laugh. :D
Luckily I don't think that's available in the UK or else I'd have been easily sucked in too. I'm a big Michael Crichton fan, and I love Timeline - the book. Did it involve lots of Time Paradoxes? (See I'm already thinking, hey, why didn't I see THAT in Woolworths????) I know you say it sucks but... do you wanna swop it for Harry Potter......??? ;) I'll throw in Zelda too - if ya stupid enough to have a Game (Huh, where ARE the games) Cube like me too :)

If you want it you are welcome to it. PM me and we'll discuss trading. It is really not that good, but maybe you have some games you think suck that I might have a curious interest in.
Then we can trade. Maybe start a "club" the "I have a sucky game traders lending library" LOL

I know some people have trouble with FPS games....but 'No One Lives Forever' isn't in all honesty a bad game....its a superb one in fact!
'Enter The Matrix' still holds my pride of place as suckiest game of the year.

I am terribly sorry you experienced that game. It is one of the few games I have ever tested (and played) in which I can find no redeeming value. Fortunately Eidos was able to sidestep out of publishing any more titles from that particular developer. But I am still sorry...

No redeeming value?
Timeline was a good book, so what happened to make the game that bad?

The worst games I have bought are:
Parasite Eve
Silent Hill 2
Both of these games were so bad IMO, I can't even bring myself to finish them. (I've got about an hour and a half or so wrapped up in each one).

*wipes sweat from brow, in relief* Was beginning to think I was alone in the world. :D

Oddly enough, it was that book that brought me to this forum. I was looking
up something on the book which led me to the game site, which led me here!
I never did get the game, and the forum was gone two or three days after I arrived here. "What a long strange trip its been."

Mine is the PC version. If you feel you want it. I will send it you in exchange for ANY game you feel you might want to winnow from your library.
For all practical purposes, it is new off the shelf, less than 20 minutes use on the CD. :D
Legend of the Dragoon takes the cake. It has sort of a "watching paint dry" feel to it. I actually made myself play the whole thing, though. Then I sold it for $3 to a friend who ended up hating it even more than me - which I knew was gonna happen. Yeah, I know, that was an evil thing to do to the guy...
Other than that, there's a short list of vile games I've actually been ditzy enough to buy from the $10 bargain bins. They are there for a reason.

Silent Hill 2 is an incredible game.
An hour and a half on it takes you just past the opening movie, and really isn't enough time to gauge its merits at all.
Especially as it draws you in and hits you with its best stuff later in the game.
Its truly one of the most disturbing atmospheres I've ever seen created.
Makes "The Ring" look like an episode of "Pingu."

I was never really interested in the game to begin with,
it's just funny that it's what lead me here. I only have a dozen or so games in
my library anyways, and those are for the Mac.
But thanks for the offer just the same!
Never bought any really "bad" games. I did, however, buy games which turned out differently than I expected:
- Black and White
(more of an AI science project than a game but beyond that, my version was localised and had dutch voices in it. What a horrible experience that was. Not only in my opnion, but everybody who bought this version was complaining. I heard Activision (or whoever the publisher was) even released a 200mb patch to replace the voices back to english again :D )
- WarCraft 3
(not a bad game by all means, but I wasn't as excited playing it as I was playing the first two. Dunno whose fault that is, actually. )
- Enter the Matrix
(not what it could have been. Enjoyed it while it lasted, driven by global Matrix spirit, but common sense suggests I made a mistake buying it. Should have rented it first. )

Forgot to mention earlier... the "From Dusk Till Dawn" FPS game.... lordy only knows what made someone think this was a good idea.
It can not be accused of plagiarism as it single-mindedly ignored any and all advances in the area of FPS games in the past 15 years.

Enter the Matrix
This game was a mistake. Horrible textures, mindless button smashing, one can complete the game blindfolded, short, few boring yawnfest moves, terrible controls, Bullet Time waaay not slow enough, buggy as a bug-infested... erm... thing. And the list goes on and on. I think the only good things were... um... the music and the movies, I guess... And... um... That's it. Oh well, what could've one hoped from such a game? This game had some potential, but they did a good job making it one boring and bad game.
X-Men 2 - Wolverine's Revenge
As a Marvel Comics fan, I just had to check this out. Kind of liked it, in a way or two, but over-all it was just another quickidy-quick move into a game game. Bad controls, lacking graphics, lacking models and lacking storyline. This game had some potential for us comic-fans. They should've made a Wolverine game, not a X-Men the Movie game... Meh. I guess the only good things were Mark Hamill, Wolverine himself and a bit of stealth.
Frank Herbert's Dune
As a long-time hard-core Dune fan, I simply had to check this one out, too. Another disappointment. WHAT POTENTIAL! I think I'm going to cry. This game had such potential! Really! But they literally violated the whole of Frank Herbert's legacy. Terrible graphics, terrible models, horrible textures, bug-infested, terrible animation, horrible stealth, unbalanced, only managed to scratch the surface, lacking, lacking, lacking. Sheesh. They should erase this abomination from history and finally make a good Dune game that would be worthy to pick up Herbert's legacy's cup. They basicly took a pig, put on a Paul-mask and said it was a Dune-pig. Now everyone should go and buy it and like it.
Silent Hill 2
I'll save you some reading and simply tell you that I should've not only uninstalled it, but I should've also taken a pair of scissors, scratched it till nothing would've been left but tiny pieces, grinded it to dust, burned the dust, grinded the ashes again and then scattered it to the four corners of Earth. Then I should've washed my hands with gasoline and steel wool.

Simply put, Dave, Silent Hill 2 lacked imagination, atmosphere, likeable characters and plot IMO. It's such a far cry from the excellence that was the first installment. I'm glad you liked it, but it still remains one big disappointment for me.
(Although PE was far worse, IMO). :p

Agree. Never even finished the demo, that's how much I thought it sucked! Damn that lad, where is he & his transporter when you need him!

Lack of deliberately likeable characters I will grant you... and plot-wise it was very similar to the first.
But imagination and atmosphere?
It had both in bucketfuls! (Far more so than the really disappointing SH3).
To this day it has the best use of music and sound in a game I've ever played (and thats a long list!)
You really should have stuck with it.... the bit you played at the top was more an introduction to the SH scenario for total newcomers.
The really good stuff that sets it apart comes later....

I have a hard time wanting to devote my time to a game that went out of its way to bore the living heck out of me with what little I did waste my precious time on it. No part of the first installment did I find myself this disinterested, and it actually remains one of my favorite titles to-date. I expected a whole lot more from the second installment than what was offered. I'll tell you what. When I am finished with my home remodeling project(s) I'll give it another go, but don't expect my opinion to be swayed by much. ;)

It really is each to their own....I enjoyed the first one despite laughing my socks off every time a 'scary' creature appeared.
Loved the 2nd one immensely.
Slow starts are akin to 'building tension'..... in this case for the benefit of newcomers, as I said.
I liked all of the SH games. If you want to fill unsatisfied with a game, I suggest Darkstone for the ps1. :) My friend gave it to me for free! Because he's such a nice guy!
Pe wasn't too bad. The atmosphere was enough to keep me going. The battles and micro management kept dragging on and on....
- off topic-Anyone remember Rocket Knight Adventures from the genesis? God god that was a great game!
I'll definitely agree with you there, Shad! Darkstone was pretty bad. I don't remember if I actually gave my copy to an unwary "friend" or winged it frisbee-style into a wall.
Either way, your friend or wall was tainted with Darkstone goodness:rolleyes: lol

*sigh* I liked Darkstone.....it was purty.....and I liked the money bug a LOT. hehehe (Same sort of bug as the TR:AOD ammo bug in Von Croy's flat, but different. ;) )
Away Team was dreadful. I mean, dreadful. *shudders*
Silent Hill 2 was also dreadful, but in a morbid, gripping, crime-scene kind of way. So, not a game in any sense of the meaning for me, more like an interactive nightmare. Definitely NOT for youngsters.
Susan, those Spyro games are for kids....they are just better than we at the spastic gamepad attack needed for success, hehehe. :p ;)

With regard to Spyro - loved 'em - yes I know they are for kids, but I've got kids so thats my excuse, played and beat them. I also love Sonic and Crash! Guess I'm just good at the 'spastic gamepad attack'! :p
Harry Potter I also loved - both games - plucking the tail from the peacock in Chamber of Secrets had to be the most difficult gameplay move I've ever boringly encountered. However, as I love all things HP I persevered, and I'm sure DaveJ must have heard me in Leeds when I plucked that tail from the peacock's arse! :p
My most worthless buy had to be Quake - puleeeeeeeease - total rubbish - this put me off FPS for quite sometime - have redeemed myself lately thanks to our Kitten Celeste who introduced me to the delights of TimeSplitters 2 - excellent game - FPS redeemed. :p
I am a football fan, and follow my team - Oldham Athletic religiously - however the delights of the FIFA games escape me - more money wasted - the cd does make a very purdy coaster however!!! :p
