Er, um, I mean collection. I recently added Deus Ex to my rapidly growing arsenal of shooting games (yeah, I know... 'what took ya so long???'). This is fast becoming my favorite genre and I’m now completely obsessed with owning all of the best shooters out there. There are a few that I am considering:
1. Dead To Rights (http://www.deadtorights.com/) ~ this is going to be re-released for about 20 bucks as a “classic” of shooters and is said to be similar to Max Payne. They’re also porting it to PC, but I think I want the Xbox version of this.
2. Mafia (http://www.mafia-game.com/) ~ said to be like Vice City, only in the 1930s. Will be on console soon, but I’d rather have PC version.
3. No One Lives Forever 2 (http://nolf2.sierra.com/) ~ this is only for PC right now. I wasn’t that impressed by the first NOLF on PS2, but I’m thinking that the PC sequel will have much better graphics.
So those are the three I’m looking at right now. Any suggestions?

Never, and i mean NEVER say Mafia is a GTA-like game. Regardless of minimal resemblances, its very much its own game, and is actually better than many of GTA's aspects. Really, many people have the idea of cataloging some games as clones, or go looking for resemblances, but Mafia is defintely in a league of its own. Cars have actual weight, police are actually credible, the whole game oozes style and gameplay brilliance. One of the best story-driven gameplay experiences i've ever had.
Regardless i'd advise you to get, and play, by this order:
1. Max Payne
2. NOLF 2
3. Mafia
4. Dead to Rights

No way, Mafia should be number one. It combines the free-form style and driving of GTA games with the thinking and incredible plot of Deus Ex-style games.

From www.gamerankings.com (review database from mags and gaming websites) :
Dead to Rights : 74.3% (from 67 reviews)
Mafia : 88.3% (from 45 reviews)
No One Lives Forever 2 : 91.2% (from 50 reviews)
no one lives forever is perfection, get the PC version of it...

I didn't like Max Payne that much
basically, what I didn't like was the fact you are playing in a looooooog corridor that you must follow through the game.
even when you are in a large area, there are desks, half walls, plants, etc that force you to follow one way.
at least shooters give you arena, or large levels you can go exploring.
here, you just follow the path while shooting at what you see. I found that funny in such games like Time Crisis or Vampire nights, because you have the gun in hand and it's YOUR skill that matter (You don't even have to think about moving, the game does it by itself).
but there, with bullet time and auto aiming, it's just not fun (and I don't even consider the fact you got overpowered weapons)
all in all, the best thing about Max Payne is the story, and for me even that was ruined by the fact I got the game after it was translated in french (and that was horrible, really)
by the way, I didn't play the others. I'm not a big FPS player

I got Mafia last night. I just couldn't wait any longer and got the PC version. I'm so tired right now; I played it for about 8 hrs. straight yesterday. You are NOT kidding. In many ways it really is better than the GTA games. I'm curious to see if the Xbox version is as detailed and large as the PC version is.
I've heard many similar things said about Dead To Rights. It gets compared to Max Payne, just like Mafia & GTA, etc. They say it really does stand out in it's own right though. I'm definitely curious to play it. It really looks good, based on the screens I've seen (below are some of them). I don't know whether to get it for Xbox or PC though. Let's face it... I'm simply gonna have to get all of these games now!
