I was perusing the Blood Omen section of this board, and came across a random line from Umah, in a thread talking about the murals in the games.
The wings on both races looked different. Ancients had feathered wings whereas the Hylden had fleshy ones.
Maybe the idea of Raziel actually being the winged savior of the ancients is wrong. Maybe he's a decendant of the Hylden. The first incarnation we know of him is as a Sarafan, the sworn enemy of the vampires, just as the Hylden were the enemies of the Ancients.
