There's a new patch out for AoD.

Get it from here:

http://www.avault.com/pcrl/dlftp.asp?url=ftp.eidos.co.uk/pub/uk//tomb_raider_AOD/patch/TRAOD_PC_PATCH_V49_ALL_LANGUAGES.exe

I found it on Avault, no sign of it on the Eidos site.

when i try that link, it changes to the Eidos FTP server addy. which is capped at 250 downloaders at a time. that also indicates it must be on the Eidos site, but, of course, it's not listed there as available.

is this a real patch?

I found it on Avault's site (www.avault.com) under their "Patches" section. It's probably available on other sites, but I haven't found those sites yet. I sure it will end up on an Eidos site within a week or two.

Except for the few bugs it fixes, this patch s*cks a lot! I can't even see the title screen anymore! It's just black, just like the movies.

I wondered why I could not find the patch listed on the Eidos website. In fact, the support page has changed, and the FAQ list it takes you to doesn't even have AOD listed on the supported games options. Then today I found this (http://www.anandtech.com/#20525) . It seems that NVidia didn't like the ability to use AOD as a benchmark tool for DirectX 9 performance, and the patch links were taken down. It is still available in other places though, as you have all found.

Here's more on the issue with nVidia and Patch v.49 for TR: AOD. It has been confirmed that nVidia's GeForce FX series perform disastrously with DirectX 9 games.

NVIDA's Money Lures EIDOS To Pull Patch

EIDOS Interactive, the publisher for Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness issued a patch a couple of weeks ago for the game which happened to include a way to use the game as a DX9 benchmark. Since it shows NVIDIA hardware performing slower than ATI, EIDOS has pulled it down. Remember, this is a "Way it's meant to be played" game, which means NVIDIA has paid EIDOS marketing money. Keep in mind, that this patch improved performance on both ATI and NVIDIA hardware. Here's a bs statement from EIDOS Europe:

"It has come to the attention of Eidos that an unreleased patch for Tomb Raider: AOD has unfortunately been used as the basis for videocard benchmarking. While Eidos and Core appreciate the need for modern benchmarking software that utilizes the advanced shading capabilities of modern graphics hardware, Tomb Raider: AOD Patch 49 was never intended for public release and is not a basis for valid benchmarking comparisons. Core and Eidos believe that Tomb Raider: AOD performs exceptionally well on NVIDIA hardware." - Paul Baldwin, Eidos

Hi Quillan,

I can still download the v49 patch from UK Eidos Site? In fact I checked it out when I read a similar posted yesterday and it was there then as well?

Looks like they only modified the .com site

I wondered why I could not find the patch listed on the Eidos website.

http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/support/search.html?gmid=134

or just view their ftp site

Yeah, that's pretty much all they did. The UK FTP server was overloaded, so I downloaded it from the german site instead. It's still up there as well, though it looks like they modified the french site to remove the link from it.
