I played the first TR game demo back when it was fairly new. I liked it alot but I was too young to buy the games.
I was wondering which games should I buy from the TR 1, TR 2, TR 3, The Last Revelation, Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness?
I image that the best games where the first ones. I recently bought the first one and although it's really hard to get it to run for a long time on Windows XP without crashing I enjoy playing it.
One last question I have is if the gold versions are worth the money?
Thanks everyone :D

hmmm depends on the raiding style you prefer, and who you ask :)
My feeling is that the first two games were more linear than newer ones. It was pretty straight-forward (some may say easier), though contained plenty of tough puzzles. TR2 goes from the Great Wall in China, to Venice, to an Offshore Rig and sunken boat, to Tibet, to some bizarre unreality, and back home again.
The third game introduced the concept of having more than one path available to finish a level. And you can pick which regions you work in. Other than that, raiding was still somewhat straightforward (level by level by level by region). TR3 moves from India to Nevada, the South Pacific, London and Antarctica.
TLR took this concept a step further and basically dropped you into the game and you got to run around and explore. Some consider this game to be one of the hardest entries into the TR series. There's backtracking and the level-by-level concept is gone. It is essentially contained in Egypt.
Chronicles goes in a different direction again. Four areas (Rome, Ireland, Russian Submarine and VC-1 HQ) each very different. The Ireland levels are played as a young Lara and she doesn't have weapons, so you have to solve things differently.
Aaaaand then there's AOD. No tombs. Takes place in Paris and Prague. You get to play as a different character, Kurtis Trent. There's a world of opinion atm of AOD, so you might want to check out the AOD forums and decide for yourself :)
It depends on what you're looking for. I liked them all, but they do differ slightly from one another. I don't think I have a favourite, but if you're looking for a good challenge that is very involving, I recommend TLR. If that sounds a bit tough just yet try TR2, and TR3 is a good one to get you used to searching for different paths (just watch the bugs in that one).

That's a good thread for checking out a variety of opinions on each of the games. You might want to have a look through it and see what games are liked and why.
Happy raiding :)

Do you mean TR 1 Gold, Unfinished Business, & TR 2 Golden Mask? Then you don't have to buy them! If you have the original game you can download the gold levels from the net. You can find them at Stella's (http://www.tombraiders.net/stella/).
I liked Unfinished Business a lot, if you are playing TR 1, then you should definitely download it! I didn't like Golden Mask (TR 2) very much, it was just more of the levels I didn't enjoy the most in the game. But that's my opinion!
Have fun! :)
Please note there are various compilation packs out there. So you can get TR4 & Chronicles together or TR1-3.
As you found out TR1 is sort of a pain to run under XP.
TR3 is more for experienced TR players.
Chronicles is short and more like an expansion pack.
The Angel of Darkness is buggy.
I'd choose TR2 or TRLR to start with.
And yeah I'd just download the gold levels. :)
