Sometime tomorrow on August 25th, the great Pete Sampras is to hold a press conference to officially announce his retirement. :(

With a record 18 Grand Slam career wins, Sampras has been called the greatest tennis player ever to play the game. Sampras's 18th and final Grand Slam win came just a year ago at the US Open which has its first round of play tomorrow morning at Flushing Meadows.

With Pete retiring, I think this may mean that Andre Agassi's retirement isn't far behind.

My speculation:
Pete'll leave and then come back a year later.
It happens with a lot of other sports people too. Take Matt Hoffman (BMX biker) for example. He retired, and then showed up for the X-Games a year or so later.
Michael Jordan also. He quit basketball and did other stuff. Then he came back again.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

In the tennis world, when people retire they retire for good. Although, I bet in a few years we'll see Sampras playing in the 35+ yr old tournaments. :p You're considered past your prime once you hit 30. ;)

I'm also sure we'll be seeing Mr. Sampras playing in celebrity and charity events.
;)
