View Full Version : Interesting glitch

Have you ever noticed that whenever you talk to Jock and say "Let's go", there is a half-second in which you return to 1st person view before it shows the helicopter flying away? I always thought that it was no big deal, but I realized that it creates an interesting bug:
I was in the cemetary where you meet Dowd, and I ran over the helicopter without killing the guards. So, while Jock and I were talking, all the guards were aiming at me. During that half-second, they all fired and actually killed me! But, since the helicopter had already been triggered to fly away, it took off despite my scream and the soldiers saying "let's get some ID". When we landed, I had full health :D
I guess Jock is a good doctor...

Nice! :D
I just love the fact that nobody attacks you during a conversation, then suddenly all hell breaks lose once you finish.
I remember when I went into the Mole People's hideout, and dealt with the NSF soldiers there. I guess I missed one soldier, and started a conversation with one of the Mole People. It happened somewhere along these lines:
The screen shows the man I'm talking to, and I suddenly hear a gun being pulled.
Screen switches to me, and I say something like "Don't worry, you shouldn't have anymore trouble from the NSF" - with an NSF soldier standing right behind me, pointing his gun to my head at point-blank range!! :D :D
That was classic - I chuckled for a few minutes. Man, I should've taken a screenshot of that - probably wouldn't happen again! :D

I don't think that one's so unusual. It's happened to me a couple times.
Just last weekend I played through the Mole Tunnels, took out all the NSF in the tunnel where the Commander's hidden room is, and he surrendered, no trouble. But the guys in the tunnel near the bathrooms killed me as soon as I came around the corner.
Go figure.

another weird glitch: pick up a body and drop an item in your inventory by going into it clicking on an item and press drop. this makes your hand and the body disappear but u r hloding the body still and when u drop that body and pick up another 1 a box that says do not place all over it will take the place of the body on the ground.
it wuz weird when i first did it

I had this happen to me some time ago, only I ended up with ZERO head-health when we landed.
If I remember correctly we were leaving UNATCO HQ early in the game, and just to be an ass I started shooting at the guards just before getting in the chopper. They returned fire and nailed me in the head but good. I gave a death yell and the 'death' music played as the chopper took off, which was funny enough. Then after landing I was sort of a zombie... no head health, and I couldn't use anything in my inventory and could not interact with NPCs. What a freakin' riot!
I posted this when it happened, probably two years ago, but I don't think anyone believed me at the time.

I've seen this 'do not place' box when using cheats and summoning some item that (I guess) didn't have a model coded for it. It's all pretty and rainbow-striped.
That reminds me... I was running a cheat server once and someone summoned a 2D sprite in mid air that looks like a little camel's head. Anyone know what this is or how to summon it?

I'm 90% positive that this glitch was fixed in the GOTY version:
From Patch Readme file
Fixed a bug in singleplayer in which corpses occasionally became placeholder boxes (garish boxes bearing the legend "Do not place").

I've had the "Do not place" message when using the Targeting Aug on something like a tree.
Strange: sure the Aug has the capability to give you health stats on your enemies and even what weapons they're carrying, but I guess it's not sophisticated to recognise a bush when it sees it, eh?

The most amusing twist on that one has gotta be security panels.. Get a bunch of idiots to chase you, then tap into a panel which has a turret control. They'll all stand around looking at you, probably wondering why they aren't shooting you. You can then watch, at your leisure on the cameras, as they are taken apart by the turret.

Yeah, I love doing that turret thing.
An interesting similar phenomenon I have experienced is if you hold down fire key while using the pistol, it fires quite rapidly. Once, I was killed while doing this and fell to the ground, only to jump up again, take another shot and fall to the ground again!!
