As a fan of the comic since day one, I've been eagerly awaiting this film since its inception.
The film was late in coming. It should have been a May release, but due to the horrendous flooding in Prague last year, where it was shot, production was delayed. They lost many of the sets and everything had to be rebuilt.
The wait was worth it.

Action packed from beginning to end.
There were no dull moments.
The humor is impeccible and I was so glad they kept the dialogue (and humor)
to the era in which the story takes place.
(I hate when movies try to incorporate modern day dialogue into period pieces.)
Everybody played their characters to perfection.
Alan Moore has expanded on the lives of these illustrious literary characters (in the comics)
and none of that is lost in the movie.
Although the film is based on the first LXG series (it is in it's second storyline, now),
it is a totally new story. The only elements retained from the first storyline are the introduction of the characters and the pulling together of the team itself.
I'm quite glad it is a new story because it gives me more LXG to enjoy.
The characters (in the comics as well as the movies) are truer to their literary roots rather than any filmed version you've seen before. Another Bravo for that.
On the other side of that same coin, the characters are just as true to their version in the comics for the most part. (edit-some changes were made either to spice up a particular character or to make them a tad more palatable to the general public, or for what I'm assuming may be certain copyright issues.)
There were little things in the movie that I spotted that started to lead my mind in speculation about what was to come, and then the curves were thrown.
There are more than one or two totally unexpected plot twists. Another reason I loved this film.
They even found a way to get some of Kevin O'Neill's extremely unique art style into this film, even though it is a live action film. (And I'm not talking about his work appearing on a poster or something. I'll explain what I'm talking about here after more people have seen the film.)

And just wait until you see the Nautilus!:D

(edit 2 - I have, since posting this, read a few other reviews from fans of the comic
who didn't like it, but I'm thinking that they are just being really nit-picky fanboys. Comments along the lines of when fans were miffed when they made Rougue and Iceman too young in the X-men movies or casting Sir Ian as Magneto or not having the exact costume, etc.)

Heheh. Just the other day I was thinking there was nothing good to see this summer in the cinemas, untill of course I saw the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen trailer.

And this report puts a big grin on my face. :)

I'm already eager to see this movie.

I'd already been a huge Kevin O'Neill fan since the Marshall Law days with Pat Mills.
(You UK comic fans should remember their work from the 2000AD comics)
When the first issue of LXG hit the stands, I was immediately drawn to it just by the O'Neil cover alone. When I picked it up and saw that it was a collaboration with Alan Moore, I was even more thrilled.
They haven't failed me yet with the comic, and the movie does the comic justice.

Have not seen it yet, but for me even a Bad movie with Sean Connery is worth watching, and as he has aged I like him even more. :D

Excellent!

The Region 1 DVD will be out about around the same time then!
I love staggered releases sometimes....

Deek....didn't Kevin O'Neill do ABC Warriors and Robo-Hunter?

Not sure about Robo-Hunters but definately ABC. He also did Nemesis and Metalzoic, both of which I read.
Here's (http://www.barbelith.com/cgi-bin/articles/00000018.shtml) a kind of oldish interview with Kevin. There's some pretty interesting remarks in it. (I wish I knew which Marshall Law panel they were talking about - I'll have to look into it further.)

i just saw it the other night, and i just thought it was okay. i was confused w/ the Mina, shes a vampire right? and yet i saw her take out a mirror to see if she had any blood on her from the victem she just cit. vampires aren't supposed to see their reflections right? and also she goes out in the sun a lot. again i couldve sworn they weren't supposed to go out in the sun.
also i have no idea how Nautilus got thru the waterways of Venice, because that ships massive and i believe the waterways and canals are veerrry small in Venice ;) those are just some things that bugged me about the movie.

but, IMO, i thought it was just okay.

Its my understanding that she's not a full vampire.
Like Blade.
Best of both worlds.

The victim's blood would show up in the mirror even if she didn't.

Other than a few continuity issues, the film was good. I did enjoy Sean Connery and the rest of his crew. (Stuart Townsend was a lot better in this than he was in Queen of The Damned that's for sure. I shall enjoy picking this up on DVD.

Couldn't agree more! He has a remarkable talent! I've always admired him, and still he continues to surprise me! Sometimes I've wondered if he gets more interesting roles now than before. Or maybe he just gets better!

Another bit of info on this point, which seems to have caught many people out.

The notion that Vampires can't stand sunlight was created for the 1920's 'Nosferatu' movie.... but Bram Stoker's original novel "Dracula" had no such thing.
His vampire walked around in daylight, as did Gary Oldman in the movie version.

If anything, the makers of LXG are being more faithful to this source material than any other story (in any media) featuring vampires since the 20's.

I finally got over to the local flick palace to see it this afternoon.

Fantastic, just fantastic!
There are a few things I'd like to say, but I don't want to be a spoiler so I'll keep stum.

Fantastic though, I can see why Connery was saying on Parky that he'd really enjoyed making it. It shows. :)
