I ask you what your favorite gameplay style for Deus Ex was, I enjoyed being stealthy and killing as little as possible. I'm currently playing the game as a kind of action hero and am quite enjoying it, though. So CHOOSE, ICARUS COMMANDS IT!:D

100% sneaking, 0%kill

(except for Gunther, Anna and Simmons, I didn't know you didn't HAVE TO kill them.

next time, real 0% kill (on my way)

With those three, do remember to wound them severely. :D

yes, but I don't know how to wound them seriously without killing them (as I said elsewhere, the LAM isn't such a precise weapon, and gun takes too long. maybe I should consider 7.62)

Hmmm no demolition men, well I did just put that one in for fun, thought there'd be some people who like to blow stuff up. (Did anyone realize the angry face looks like its going to blow up? )

Are you guys nuts? You have to kill everyone, using as little ammo as possible! Then horde! Horde all that ammo and stuff you cermoniously and triumphantly remove from their bodies! Saving it until you absolutely, positively have to use it all in one go and... oh, the game ended.

My playing-style: Kill everyone and everything, but using extreme stealth. Even back track for seven hours, just incase that headshot didn't quite kill that homeless guy who was rude to you.

"Garrett" style, using my prod (new age blackjack), and tranqualizer darts. I'm on my way through for the first time trying for zero kills. The first time I shot on site, the second time I got impatient with stealthing, and started shooting again, this time I'm gonna stealth it 100%.

yeah I did the same the first time I played. but in the end, I didn't have enough ammo, so I hade to use pistol, untrained. little harder.

I started out going soft on the NSF guys, and then on the UNATCO guys (I rarely left a level without every one of them unconscious, though - making me wonder what Anna meant about "mopping up" and such). I felt better about taking out MJ12, though, which was when the fun really started.. especially those parts where the odds are so much against you that I seriously doubt you're *supposed* to go in armed with a pistol taking everyone out in a decidedly unstealthy manner.

Then again, that's the second greatest thing about Deus Ex..

What I love most about realistic games with modern weapons is running around with a pistol and putting a single bullet in the heads of all the humans who can actually be killed with one bullet to the head. In some games I can snipe with a pistol from a pretty good distance. Maybe Deus Ex too if I can ever get far enough into it to hone the skills. So I sometimes run in guns blazing, but unlike the dumb enemies I'm not sitting there just firing at my enemy quickly so that I miss a lot, I pause a moment to get them with one hit. That's kind of the action hero thing. I also like to sneak around and then place a well aimed bullet in the back of their heads when they least suspect it, so kind of assassin there. Can I vote modern ninja? d-:

Darn, since deus ex isn't working right, I'm off to play SoF2 some more.

stealth sniper (crossbow w/scope) then
sniper (fully modded sniper rifle) when the traq darts stop working (when MiB's start showing up) then
action hero when the full auto shotty and shows up, man I love that gun, and the scoped GEP gun

Traditional Punisher style gameplay.
Quote: "If your guilty. Your dead."

Mostly prefer assault rifles, good accuracy and the stopping power of full auto when needed.

I would go out of my way to save every civillian in the game and help them out when they needed it (I even gave money and food to the civillian npc's ;). But everyone who sided with the enemy got ventilated with extreme prejiduce.

of course because I loved the game so much I eventually played through it every method possible, but the above listed was my first run through of choice.

edited quote.. I accidentally mistyped it the first time.

I like being a stealthy hacker. If they get killed by their own defences, not my problem. Otherwise, I go for zero body count.

Side note: Does anyone else notice how "Tranqs" are counted as kills? One time, I tranqued the NSF in Castle Clinton, and Anna did the "graveyard" line. The next time, I only tranqued (or maybe shot, I can't remember) one guy, and she wanted a different partner. Something to think about.

auric

I think if u tranque all, then she say u to easy on them, but if Anna & others attack while you're nearby & watching, she'll think you're with them killing together.

So the only way I avoid this is not to look at the NSFs, get the ambrosia & quickly head to the subway without looking at Anna, she'll come to me to say I'm too soft, this way I won't get a killing view in her mind.

In Castle Clinton, just shut the doors that Anna and the UNATCO troopers have barricaded as soon as possible, then unconscious as few NSF as you can through the back route. My weapon of choice is the baton, but tranqs work too.

I like to make sure that there isn't any opposition left. I have tossed away my cattle prod a while ago, so I usually kill everyone. I do like the tranq darts very much, so when the situation is right, I'll let a couple down easy. I don't kill the innocent (on purpose), & figure if they don't have a problem w/ I don't have one with them. The only time I got frustrated was w/ Smuggler (crazy prices), I tried to put a 30.06 shell in his head, but this doesn't work as well as I thought it would as Smuggler promptly whooped up on me.

auric
10-23-2003, 05:44 AM
Just incase u didn't know, smuggler can't be killed, "yet"

If u really want to kill him, theres a part when u need to get lams for a super freighter, don't tell him that Gunther is coming, then he'll die there.

to :) or to :(

thats up to you.

I don't remember the option to inform Smuggler of Gunther, I later heard in one of the transmissions that Smuggler didn't make it out in time. Smuggler isn't a bad guy, but I didn't know about his hidden stash at the time & I wanted the LAMs.

I my current game, the last I saw Gunther was when Nicolette & I took off in the copter to head to her place ;)

I like to be a "soft" sniper, killing with my sniper rifle or using the crossbow when I need distance, otherwise using the baton or the riot prod. As soon as I get my copy in the mail (apparently, friends don't like it when you borrow their favorite games for more than three months), I'll play it with crossbow, prod, baton, and GEP gun. (Hey, I need *something* to use against bots and karkians. More the karkians than the bots; there's always the spy drone.)

I didn't like killing all the time, but the first couple times I played, certain areas were bloodbaths. For instance, that base from which you send a signal to Silhouette. Later, I just used the speed aug and jumped off the roof.

How does the baton work against MiBs?

If you want them not to fall to pieces, you'll have to let them live. There are a few ways of doing this:

1) Go around. This means you can't get at anything near them or on them.

2) Ignore them. While you can now access anything near them, if not on them, it has the added effect of killing you rather quickly.

3) Use your augs to sneak by. Augs are for wimps.

4) Use the riot prod on them. It takes a couple jolts to get them down, but you can actually get what they're holding. This, too, is for wimps.

5) Spawn a bunch of greasy green greasels to come to your aid. It won't help the MiBs stay in one piece, but it's certainly fun to watch, especially if you give them fire or rockets rather than their normal phlegm.

What's your favorite way to play the game?

The first thing that came to my mind was: "Violence."
I kill most enemies I come across, except in a few situation like Liberty Island (not enough skills), NSF airfield (can't take out those pesky bots) and the streets of Paris (don't get me wrong, I kill them all, but I have to "remove" the Military Bots first).

My fav way to play is somewhere between a stealthy assassin and a hacker.

I generally kill everything, just incase I have to go back for something I forgot, I don't need to worry about running into anything unpleasent. But I do it all in stealth. I hide in the shadows and rarely use anything but my sniper rifle or pistol.(I use the regular pistol because the stealth pistol just doesn't do it for me)

If theres a gun turret around, mind you, I'll use that to kill the enemy. Ammo is too valuable to waste needlessly.;)

I'm a guy who's too used to JKII: Jedi Outcast, so I like to clear everything out. I personally like to sneak, then fire a tranq dart at point blank into the one-shot kill/one-shot unconcious zone. After the first five or so missions though, the enemies get a bit harder and I will usually switch to the flamethrower. It's fun to flame everyone, and the flamethrower can eliminate enemy resistance with one click/sweep.

Anytime I can, however, I sneak my way to a sniping point, then yank out my stealth pistol (w/ scope) and double-tap everyone in sight. Two bullets to the cranium really hurts ya know?

Against MIBs and WIBs, however, I like using the stun prod (no explosion, no noise... you can search the bodies... :D)

Of course, anytime I can I use their own security systems and bots against them. I like to watch bots fight it out, and I even got a nice shot of a MJ12 Military Bot duking it out with a Vandemburg Military Bot.

I usually use the baton, riot prod, & tranq dart. I also use a stealth pistol for firefights. four tranq darts into a mj12 commando always works, so does two into an mib. no blood, no boom
I also use the dragon tooth when i can.
I find the pistol to slow firing, to loud, and not very big clip

Ferrard Carson
11-08-2003, 03:10 PM
Right now, I'm playing a speciallized game, and have an silenced assault rifle w/ five accuracy mods, five recoil mods, a 45 bullet clip, and 100% accuracy. So, I can snipe someone with it even without using targeting. (laughs evily)

Edit: Grammer mistake...

i like to be as stealthy as can, without killing anyone, and then when i'm in the middle of a horde of mj12/MiB/nsf i jump from the shadows with my asualt shotgun and blast everyone (and i mean everyone) to little bits. and then just for fun, spawn a greasel to take care of the bodies...:D

My favorite method is to become a stealthy, assassin-like mass-murderer. Anyone and EVERYONE who encounters me is eventually killed; this includes Jock, Smuggler, and Paul Denton. I take pleasure in devising elaborate ways to trap people in certain situations and slaughter them; these include barring the doors at the Old China Hand and Lucky Money. My favorite thing to do is attach a lam to the ceiling above the Red Arrow table, and detonate it, sending a shower of fire on all those standing near. I quietly knife bums in back alleys, while do Terminator-style execution shots to clerks and doorway men (imagine walking into the Queens Tower place and instantly drawing your pistol and shooting the guy).

The way I play, the earth shall be inherited by rats and pigeons. Certain sections of Paris and Hong Kong are now devoid of human life.

However, in my current campaign, I'm simply playing no-kills and knocking out enemies only.

I'm currently playing using only the knife and fully modded pistol. works really great. When I use the pistol though, I only give one bullet by enemy. If I miss the head, I just use my knife to finish him off...

Thought I'd play stealthy but who was I kidding??? Not a living soul in new york anymore :D

Masai

...and each time a different way. The last 3 times though were the same. I use the scramble grenades exclusively on all bots. If they don't all kill each other off, then I'll finish off whatever bot or human that's left in the region. Lots of lam setup stuff, like I kill Anna Navarra on the plane when I go talk to Lebedev. She gets blasted as she comes through the door. About 4 lams and 2 gas grenades do the trick.;)

Stealthy with maxed out mods on sniper rifle and crossbow.

I love the ballistic armor vests, I take on MJ12s with it on and last, my big guns are the flamethrower, the assault rifle with 20mm ammo and the shotgun with sabot ammo.

That's how I really like to go through the game......all guns are mod maxed and I also carry a hazmat suit and a rebreather.:)

...I'm ready!!!!

I hack to make things easier
I incapacitate when no friendlies can get hurt
I kill when I must

I'm really lousy at any kind of FPS stuff -- I usually play CRPGs, where it's the character's gunplay skill that matters rather than my mouse ability. So for a hybrid like Deus Ex I was pretty much forced to be a stealthy long range sniper who got one shot kills before they even knew I was there.

I came to think that there's nothing like sitting on that hatch way up in the air above the superfreighter dock, shooting guards hundreds of feet away. Hitting them 2 inches above the eyeline for the instant, silent kill. It's enough to give you fantasies of godhood (guess which ending I took).

I'm on my second game now. I find that often I'm sneaking past guards rather than killing them now that I have a better feel for when it's safe to leave living opponents behind me.

I use hacking etc when I can -- only a fool gets into unnecessary gunfights.

for me, its snipe snipe snipe... I tend to use as many mods on my sniper rifle as I can.. lol

my thing is throwing a lam close by.. so the run to it and look @ whats going on.. then run @ them and snipe the, quick

As for me- I love hacking and letting turrets/bots do my work for me. Whenever I can't, I either snipe them from as far away as possible, or, if I have to get close, put a tranq dart in them and hide until I hear the "Oohhh... *thump*"

One time I sterted a new game I ran up to Paul (before he ran around the forner to talk to me). As Paul was talking, that one NSF guy who patrols right at the top of that ramp spotted me and came down onto the dock and started shooting. The bot took him out, but it attracted the attention of one of the other guys. The bot actually walked onto the island to take him out, attracting the attention of the next nearest guy, and so on. Half the island was cleared, and I didn't even leave the dock! I've tried starting several new games to get it to happen again, to no avail. I guess it was just a fluke.

I still cleared out the island without even lifting a weapon - just get the guys' attention, then run behind either one of the bots, or the turret (which I hacked so it's on my side). Searching all the bodies, I ended up with a nice surplus of ammo to take to the next area, and still got credit for takin the
'minimum force' approach.

(Paul gives you this speech at the beginning on how we're not supposed to kill, but when one of the NSF guys comes near him, he pulls a plasma rifle and blasts them. Hmm...)

I like to use the blk suited agents male and female as bombs to blow up other soldiers. I set them up with planted gas bombs, get them all bent over screaming, then put a few throwing knives right in dome of one of the agents and his or her explosion wipes out the whole bunch.........nice, I did'nt waste any precious serious ammo.;)

I just shot everyone I came across in the head once with a super-modded pistol. Makes me wish I had done it with the stealth pistol just so I could be silent at the same time.

I always tried to use stealth in all my walkthroughs, but in different ways...

Well my first time playing I was like Leon from the movie "The Professional". I just went in with my sniper rifle and Dragon's Tooth throughout the game.

In my second walkthrough I used non-lethal means to take most people out (crossbow, tazer, gas-gernades, etc), except during hairy situations when I needed to be lethal.

I'm actually in my third walkthrough and this time I'm taking down as little as possible...meaning if I can walk passed them and I know they won't be a bother later on, I just walk passed them and let them live.

I always kills high ups in command no matter what. Troopers follow orders, sometimes blinded by the truth...it's the high ups I'm after.
-----------------------------------

For the post about non-lethal take downs counting as kills: Yes they do AFTER Liberty Island. If you take everyone out at Liberty Island non-lethally, Paul will see it as NOT killing them. When you get to Hell's Kitchen in the train station, Paul will tell you to use the same method you used at Liberty Island or if you killed everyone there, he'll say "You took a lot of lives at Liberty Island."

However, if you do the same in Castle Clinton while Anna is looking they are kills. If you do it while the doors are closed or if they don't rush in then you should be fine. If you take out Johny non-lethally, it's always a kill no matter what. Sandra will recognized a non-lethal take down as a lethal one and so will her friend at the bar as well.

For the post about the Smuggler: Yes you can save him, just go visit him during the same time you visit Staton Dowd (sp?) and the dialogue will trigger about you warning him of UNATCO.

To save Smuggler, there's no need for rush.

After chatting with Daud, just head to smuggler. After hearing herman's raiding talk just tell smuggler that gunther is coming & that someone followed u.

Smuggler will then escape by himself later after u leave for the subbase.

:)
