If you have pre-ordered the PC Version - Cancel Your Order. Maybe the software distributors can light a fire under EIDOS's ass and make them DELIVER THE GAME! Even if you pick it up after if REALLY is released, if enough prople cancel their orders now - EIDOS will get the word from the distributors.

I just cancelled my order at EBGames placed LAST NOVEMBER for this damn game. This last delay cinched it for me! I love the Tombraider series and have played them all multiple times, but this is it for me! I wouldn't buy this game now if it was on the $9.99 discount shelf!

The Management team at EIDOS responsible for this fiasco should be FIRED. In any other business, they would be history after the atrocious mis-management of this release! They would have been better off to have set a relase date of January, 2004 and then delivered the game early instead of this delay-after-delay-after-delay CRAP!

If enough people hit them in the pockets - maybe they'll wake up and realize that they can't just keep p***ing on the paying public without having to suffer some repercussions for their actions! If they don't make their financial numbers for the year (Ending June 30th), the stock will fall and the managers will lose some serious bucks in stock, options, and bonuses!

So I suppose if they had released it last November like they originally stated, with a lot more bugs than it has now, you'd be happy?

I wouldn't know, but, (presuming you are in the US) at least you have the PS@ version. Here in Canada, we keep getting delayed dates.

The PC Version is delayed again at least until sometime in July according to EIDOS.

Ali - What I EXPECTED from a professional company is a release date that is REAL and a game that is reasonably bug free. I've been a developer for more that 20 years, so I know that no software is perfect - I have overlooked many bugs in previous TR Games as well as many others, but I expect a company like EIDOS to come up with a real release date and then meet that date - not jerk their customers around like we're pieces of trash in their wastebasket just waiting to be dumped!

Yes, but Eidos is using different technology for this game are they not? So therefore, it's not going to run 100% smoothly the first time around.

I wish we all could play the game the same day. I think it'd be exciting playing all together, solving puzzles and helping others who are stuck, trying to be one of them who will complete it first. But since that can't happen why Eidos, which is an europian company in UK, relased it first in USA and not in Europe? Nor that would be good since none of them would be fair. I'm just wondering.

A good thing that Eidos could do is to have set the relase date for November 2003 and say "we are trying to relase the game one year earlier but we aren't sure", instead to delay it so many times, making so many fans waiting that special date of November 2002, Febrouary, April & June 2003, which will never come. Personally I will stop waiting. There are a lot of great games that I can play and if Eidos relase AOD in a period that I can buy it I will.

You're not the only ones.

I went to get the PS2 version of AoD at BestBuy - a large retail chain, they have it, right?

Nope, went the 17th, not in stock, yet. Went the 18th, nope, not in stock yet (and this is the date it's supposed to be on shelves). Finally went 2 days ago, and they didn't have it in stock, although the blank ones you pick up for the real game in storage were on display. Turns out it was at the bottom of the bin.

So, I'd been asking, why the delay?

One of the department managers told me that EB games has it - they get it BEFORE the release date, in fact - and that EIDOS has a tendency to lie about the release of their products.

Well, I wasn't going to go to EB Games, since it's a little far from me and in a less then savory neighborhood.

THAT's IT. I'm pre-ordering LoK: Defiance online.
And I'd better get my Defiance DVD soon... I'm getting antsy!

(PS - the game is still a bit buggy. Sometimes the framerate will reduce to slow motion in certain areas. And the controls are kind of crappy. But it's nice eye-candy!)

Well a lot of new games used new engines such as Mafia which used a highly realistics LS3d engine, n i'd like to add that it's flawless. let's not forget good ol' half-life 2, which is gonna use the all new source engine!n judging by the reviews n screens, it looks like it's gonna be a banger.
So DON'T feel pity on core, by saying that their usin a new engine so it we should be considerate enough to accept al it's flaws!

I don't accept the "it's a new engine" excuse for the bugs. The first TR used a new engine for its time, and it worked fine. Sure, there was a bit a clipping now and then, but nothing severely detrimental to gameplay.

Yes, I know programming a game is extremely difficult, but if it's too difficult for them to handle, then they shouldn't be doing it. Building a house is difficult too, and I freely admit that I can't do it, so I don't go around offering to build houses for people, charging them for it, and then building something that collapses after a storm.

If they need to delay it to make it work, then by all means delay it. And if they still can't get it right, and they see that the situation is hopeless, they should do one of two things-- (1) release it as a bargain game and hope to recover at least some of their losses without pissing off their customers too much, or (2) scrap it and admit defeat.

Or (3) hire experienced PS2 developers to debug the game, and to counsel the old developers. I think that would be still cheaper than scrapping the whole game.

Oh yeah, I guess that DOES make more sense for everyone involved. Though it's a little late for the PS2 version, but the PC version still has a faint glimmer of hope.

You say "fair glimmer” I say big huge ball of fire :). I think its there, if it wasn't they wouldn't delay. And about canceling my order, I’m not that stupid. I’m not a person that the moment a game is delayed, well, the moment a game is delayed about 10 times :) is going to go out and hate on Eidos or Core for delaying. I've waited for many games and you know what it’s a common fact that when a game is delayed usually it turns out better...i say usually because its not for certain. Cancel your order, fine, cancel mine, HELLLLLL no, I’m not an impatient prick who thinks the world of game creation revolves around me. I understand that if it’s broke, then fix it, and esp. since we all know that the US ps2 version is broke then they have every right to delay and patch and do whatever it takes the make the product better. Props I say to Eidos and Core....mad props for doing this.

I just don't want to set my expectations too high and be disappointed. I'm being cautiously optimistic.

Im one of those overly optimistic people... and im not afraid to say... I figure i got a 50/50 chance, could go either way :)

No matter how much you want this game to be good, the plain truth is that it is extremely dissapointing. And mouthing off to those who have played it and admitted how bad it is, isnt gonna change that.

The thing is tho, you haven't played it. I don't see anyone having the PC version of the game yet...and that is the one that people are bit**ing about to begin with...well if you have it you must be special, are you special??

Considering that whenever the development for the PS2 takes the lead, and the PC version is basically the same PS2 game ported to PC, it is reasonable not to ignore the experience of those who actually played the PS2 version, because the PC version won't be very different.

There might be improvements (I also hope for improvements in the PC game), but it's just that my expectations are not so high.

Basiacally the same is the key word in what you said. Yes it will be port of the ps2. But hopefully as you said...not to much hype...they will fix the major problems that people have been complaining about in reviews and on fourm...Controlls...and graphic glitches. Wam, bam thank you mam. Thats it, thats all i need :)

But it seems that at least a couple of the "major PS2 issues" are just that - "PS2 issues". It is hard to beleive that "controls" and "graphic glitches" that reviewers have been pounding the PS2 version for would have anything to do with the PC version. I suspect that the issues with the PC version are more global and may not be all technical in nature so much as they are business issues. I mean right now, the whole fiasco could end up being a franchise killer couldn't it?

Zansky
06-25-2003, 08:36 AM
I highly doubt its going to be a "franchise" killer. People have been hating on TR since number 2. Honestly im not a fanboy, but I never played 3, 4, 5 because i knew they were just milking, just like The Sims. Last great TR game was 2 in my opinion, and if anything the francise is already dead and they are just trying to get it back. But I don't think this series could die, TR is a legend, and "legends never die"

Ah yes Sandlot is a great flick :)

Your expectations should never be high. Hope for the best but expect the worst. It's a psycological principle, you see, and it doesn't only apply to games (but also movies, jobs, marriage etc. :D )
