View Full Version : renewed UK release date confusion...

So AOD of darkness was only delayed until 27th June. Thats not really too bad is it? Right?

WRONG

After just looking at Gameplay.co.uk the PS2 release has now been put back until the 4th of July. But this is the best bit. The PC version is still slated for the 27th.

Hands up if you believe that will stick?

My congratulations has to be given out to Eidos for engineering perhaps the most farcical release **** up I've ever witnessed for a high profile game.

Heres a game that supposedly is being released this Friday over in the UK and from what I've read, nobody knows this for sure. Neither the fans, the game stores and it would appear Eidos themselves. Brilliant.

Oh and as a side note. Another eagerly anticipated Eidos title: Republic The Revolution has according to sources outside of Eidos, slipped until some time next month. Again no official announcement and the retailers, Game, have already printed thousands of promotional leaflets, trumpeting a 27th June release.

Keep up the good PR work Eidos...

AOD of Darkness...

The release date is still this Friday mate. It hasn't changed neither in playstation.co.uk nor Amazon.co.uk plus as i said in another post, the suplier is expecting it TOMMOROW!!! And as i have been reassured by all stores here it will be out on Friday! That is unless they are all part of an Eidos conspiracy or something!. The bottom line is don't believe in everything you read in one site that happens not to be OFFICIAL (like playstation.co.uk it's the OFFICIAL release date schedule for all things PS2) or a retailer that's actually hoping to gain some money from it like Amazon!

And as i have been reassured by all stores here it will be out on Friday!

Thats in Greece.

The shops here in the UK have had it in stock for over a week but have been instructed not to sell it until July 4th.

At time of writing.

It may still appear this Friday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Plus....not all games have simultaneous release dates worldwide.

Its very common for the US or Japan to get games before the UK does.

Except Star Trek: Elite Force 2....which the UK got ahead of the US by at least a week.
And Silent Hill 3.....which we got 3 months ahead of them.

i live in edinburgh, scotland. and received that email at 3.30pm today. no one in the uk will be playing that game this friday (unless they have it imported from US).

I'd love to know the reasoning behind sending copies out to retailers only to tell them that they cant sell it until the 4th.

All of this delaying by a week at a time is gonna disgruntle game players and encourage people to cancel orders.

I wouldnt be surprised if they've unleashed a bug ridden game on the market and theyre delaying the PC release for long enough to have a patch helpfully available.

So would all the store owners I've spoken to.

But I wouldn't be surprised if your guesstimate turned out to be accurate.

hey we might get lucky........ maybe the store owners will be p***ed off with eidos keeping on putting it back, they might just put it on the shelves .................. wishful thinking.

they said 2 weeks at the latest, but the shops have it, the games complete, so why the wait?

Well i'm almost ready to give up on it permenately! I did it once after they cancelled the May date and got Enter The Matrix instead. If it's not out by the 4th of July at the very latest, i'm gonna get SOCOM which is new and cool and after all quite original and most importantly... HERE!!!!! I've seen it with my own two eyes!! I'm still hoping though! And i probably won't return to this forum till Friday!! I mean everytime i come here i only get bad news!! But since that site you mention is the only one to post such a thing i'm gonna keep hoping till playstation.co.uk or Amazon say it is so!! Who knows maybe WE here will get it! But it doesn't make any sense. Since as you say stores have it, then why postpone the release? They are not going to change it or anything like that. Owners REBEL, if you have it SELL it!!
PS some one said that they want the spotligt all to themselves for the release in order to get all the publicity so they didn't release it cause of the new Harry Poter book is there anything important happening this Friday?

logie1
06-24-2003, 07:25 AM
something important was supposed to happen this friday but its been postponed again. why dont you just buy socom. you should have enough money saved again in 3 months when this big white elephant of a game turns up in the shops. looks like codemasters will be getting my money on friday when snooker 2003 comes out. never mind eidos i`ll just download traod off the internet and help shut you down. i`m totally against piracy but this could be an exception to the rule.

I have a friend who works at Wh Smith in the UK and he told me that no stock had been sent yet . So why have other stores got it, but they have not, i would have thought they would be a major retailer and be one of the first.

its funny how its always 3 days before its supposed to be out that we here of a new delay. It was tuesday last week that we heard it was delayed until this friday and it will be probably next tuesday when its delayed until the friday after and this keeps repeating for another 10 years until core design say 'sorry guys, the game wont be released after all because we cant be arsed!'

This really isn't on at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Through all of these delays, we've all been in the same boat, that is to say worldwide!!! No offense to our American friends, but why do they have it and we are still being delayed???????????????????? This is majorly bad business sense if you ask me!!! DaveJ what do you mean stores have it in stock but aren't allowed to sell it, have they actually said that?????? If thats the case its not a bug-related problem as the stock is already in the shops!!!!! If the reasoning behind this is what martynium suggests with the patch thing - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Come on Eidos, we deserve an explanation!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but heres a piece of displeasing information that I noticed on the game.uk.com website. It reads as follows:

Note: Eidos have committed to shipping this game to us by the end of June, with the intention of us delivering it to GAME customers in July. As usual, anyone who pre-orders will be updated with any date change.

Oh I see so they can make a commitment to retailers but not to us common folk. This shouldn’t really come as any surprise though. It has been apparent for quite some time that Eidos treat their customers with contempt. I know its only a game, but the fact is the Tomb Raider games have cultivated a large, eager fan base over the years and this is how they are repaid.

Lets face it, how long would it take for Eidos to update the website to helpfully and candidly explain the situation to the public. If the thing is gonna be delayed, and if there are problems then we are going to find out about it either way. They could have at least saved a bit of PR face by bothering to keep us informed. But they havnt, and as a result any backlash is in my opinion, fully deserved.

Ringwraith6
06-24-2003, 11:03 PM
They even changed it in Amazon. I guess there is nothing left to do than hope that THIS IS THE FINAL DELAY. What are they afraid of anyway? But i think that we deserve a decent explanation and if we don't, i'm sure all this shops that spent a lot of money on print and radio ads (well at least here) deserve one!

Maybe they are scared of the Harry Potter hype!!! ;)

I'm normally a very patient and calm person, but I'm getting very p***ed off by all this. Yet again, a delay. Yet again, no explanation. No apology. Not even an official announcement, which means we've all had to run round again trying to find out the latest (supposed) release date from secondhand sources.

I am normally against people *****ing and whinging about games developers, but I'm starting to think Eidos deserves everything it gets over this fiasco. It's made that much worse because people in the US have already got and are playing the game.

Eidos, you have handled this very badly indeed. Shame on you.
