So I finally decided to see if GlyphX had a website; and of course, they did, loaded with gorgeous SR images, including the stills from the opening. But I'm sure this is news to no one.

I remember a discussion of graphics or something recently on the old forum (in fact, I think it was a question I asked myself) about the comparable quality of the graphics between the PS1 and PC releases. Because on my PC, there are narrow black horizontal lines across the image; as I recall, even blincon was unsure what the deal was. (I don't think they were scan lines, but I could be wrong; and I still can't make a screenshot, unfortunately...) But even beyond that, the image quality was still not what it should have been.

Now, I have seen these stills on the GlyphX site, and they are astonishing. (For instance, only now do I notice the rivets on what I now know to be Raziel's boots - I had assumed they were all barefoot...) I ask the PS gamers here: is this what the movie looks like on the PS1 version of SR?

(if you haven't seen the screenshots, they are at www.glyphx.com)

Hey, I too always thought they were walking around barefoot. Hah, you learn something new every day. :D

About the quality of the vid, yes it does look like that on the PSX (although there is some artifacting because of the compression they used), but other then that it looks the same, no black lines.

Just to clarify, those still images are *much* higher resolution than the PSX *or* PC video. Even the Dreamcast version isn't that nice =). The one that's on the SR2 DVD as a bonus is close, but is still less detailed because it's been compressed (like all video files).
Part of the cool thing about having access to the original models and other rendering data is you can make single-frame shots at whatever resolution you want.

FMV is normally rendered at a 720 x 576 (PAL) / 720 x 486 (NTSC D-1) / 720 x 480 (NTSC DV) resolution (for TV purposes).

Video for PSX is scaled down to about half of that resolution, to minimize the disc space, afaik.

You can render still-frames at any resolution you want, of course the higher the resolution the longer it takes to render a frame.

edit: made some changes in the resolutions

Yeah, those shots of the intro are crystal clear, they're beautiful.

I guess I'll just have to get a PS2 someday, and buy SR2 again, since Eidos doesn't look like they're planning to take up my brilliant marketing scheme of a SR2 DVD release anytime soon... dammit...
