Rede (literal makes noise) wenig (small or little)
Wahr = truth, truely, fact as used in context.
Trinke = drink, drinks
Zahle = cost, accounting, pays
Bar = the house, the bar, the inn, depending on context

Speaks little.
Rede wahr Speaks the truth, or truely.
Trinke Massig Drinks a lot
Zahle Bar Pays drinks for the house,

So: Possibilities are:

Speaks little, Drinks a lot,
Speaks truely, Pays the bar,


Or Speaks little
Speaks the truth
Drinks a lot
Pays the tab, buys a round.

Which has nothing to do with your mug, just thought you might like the parallel. :D

The translation above is correct, but one is missing here.
"Zahle bar" means "Pay hard cash/real cash".

Ooops, looked at it again and found something.

It says "TRINKE MÄSSIG" not "TRINKE MASSIG

"Trinke massig" would indeed be "Drink a lot"
But "Trinke mässig/mäßig" means "Drink moderately"

So it says:

Speak little,
Speak true.
Drink moderately,
Pay hard cash.

From what Goran has said,
I suppose its quite possible the meaning could even go toward:

Speak little
Speak true
Drink moderately
Pay true
(hard/real cash - real could be construed as true couldn't it?)

If I can get a good pic of the stein, I will post it.
I don't have a digital camera yet, so it could take some time.
Thanks for the further translations. The gist is there.

However the translation is actually meant, it sure sounds like
good words to live by!
