Which films did you think were OK, but not brilliant. Good, but not quite good enough.

You know, don't regret seeing, but probably wouldn't see again.

Battlefield Earth.
Shoulda been way better than it was. Travolta is so much better than that.
Barry Pepper was great in it.

Battlefield Earth - If they'd even thought about following the novel it would have been better.

Blackhawk Down - I nearly fell asleep, long and boring, if you want to see a good military movie then watch Full Metal Jacket.

Jason X - Would have been great without the comedy(erm, is that what they called it).

I just recently watched Swordfish....

It was horribly clichéd but still entertaining somewhat...

I didn't really like it at all but I never felt like turning the DVD off.

Very very average.

He sees the code in his head?! And what was with the OS graphics?!... *grumbles* stupid hollywood...

American Beauty - worst movie ever.

Tried to watch it in the theater and walked out....

Watched it at home on dvd and was pissed that I had wasted time and money on it.

For the life of me i'll never understand what people liked about that movie and why it won an oscar...what a joke.

Horrid writing, terrible story, charactors with no redeaming qualities at all........and even worse acting.
That movie just goes to show you that the oscars are a complete and utter farce.

edit: oh sorry....this was for the most mediocre...not the worse...:D

In that case i choose Moulin Rouge:D

bah i totally agree with black hawk down
it was ok, but i've seen it all before
and just... so graphically violent. it really wasn't necessary. it just made it seem like it was trying to hard, not that it was a "realistic depiction of war" or whatever.
the best part was eric bana. can't see him as anything but poooiiiiiter (no doubt you have no idea what i'm talking about).

oh AND shakespeare in love
anything with gwenyth paltrow in it automatically sends me running (most times) but we went with school to watch this... ugh. why? WHY was it made? it was such a snore!!!!

jay and silent bob strike back = total disappointment. i was expecting much better, with clerks, mallrats and dogma being some of my fave films ever. it was so typical. complete with the cute girl in tight shorts. spare me . i'm glad i finally saw it but GOD where did the humour go?

Spiderman, albeit i wasn't disapointed but that was because i knew it was gonna suck.

I never want to see it again, apart from the bit when the bomb goes off in his face. Thats funny :)

I certainly wouldn't want to watch it alot (because it WAS long), but I thought it was pretty good.

LOL, war is NOT a pretty thing!

THEthief, have you seen Full Metal Jacket and The Dirty Dozen? These two are my favorites when it comes to military movies(erm, and MASH, but that's not the same).

Both are leagues ahead of Blackhawk Down. Why? Because there's character development in them, which is lacking in Blackhawk Down. All stories are character driven(even true stories, which The Dirty Dozen supposedly is), and if you don't understand the characters the first time you watch a movie then the story fails.

I can watch long movies, but if I don't understand the characters then time drags on, which is what happened with Blackhawk Down. There were a lot of people in the movie, but they were just another faceless soldier. The enemy had more of a character with less screen time.

I definately agree with you that the characters were totally under-devoloped in BHD. I think the aspect the movie makers were going from, though, is not the "Get to know the characters personally" as "Watch all the horrible crap the characters have to endure, and what ends up happening to each". While the first would have made the movie more appealing to the audience, it might have detracted from the cold, realistic view of war, that I believe the producers were trying to get across - kind of like you're a spectator, who just arrived; you wouldn't really know the soilders, you'd just watch them. My thoughts, anyways. :) (Personally, though, I would have made the characters with at least a LITTLE more personality...but that's just me:))

As to FMJ, that's one of my dad's favorites. One - he's got a lot of favorite war movies. :p

The most recent movie I have felt let down by was Pearl Harbour - why does Hollywood put those BS stories behind such epic historic moments. That movie could have been so much better!!!!:p

mulder I thoroughly enjoyed American Beauty!!!

Tombraiderchik I thought Harry Potter was fantastic!! I felt they really did the story justice!!:p What didn't you like about it!!!?? Have you read the books??????

Here's where I sound really cranky:

"Most of them."

Most films could be much better if they took the time to tell a story instead of showing us episodic clips of action sequences or sight gags strung together with a paper-thin plot.

Most films would be better if they would stop hiring stars who are so obviously overmatched by the material, or who are so pigeonholed and unversatile (is that even a word?) that they can't play anything but one part over and over and over again.

Most films are, by definition, mediocre. The Fat Part of the Bell Curve bit.

I suppose the question may have better posed as "Which movie have you seen lately that blew you away??" If I may be so bold Black Mark!!!!:p

Off hand about the only mediocre films I can think of are:

Hannibal
The movie was alright. I mean I love Anthony Hopkins, and I love Gary Oldman but this was just too blah. Not as exciting as Silence of the Lambs. And I absolutely loathed Julianne Moore as Clairice. **shudders about thinking of that horrible performance** Thumbs up to Ray Liota though. :p

I also didn't care for Queen of the Damned. Nowhere near Interview. About the only performance I enjoyed (and believed) was Vincent Perez as Marius. I suppose a bit of the plot was lost by changing Lestat's, but I didn't really like the VH1- Behind the Music: Marilyn Manson feel to it. LOL. (Don't get me started on the soundtrack because I would've picked a better band/person to do it). Alliyah was decent (with her 15 minute total performance) but overall I actually couldn't believe I wasted 8.25 to see it in the theatre. It lacked....something. Something big.
Plotline and good entertainment perhaps? **shrugs** It sure was something alright. :p

I agree with Umah, Queen of the Damned was bad. Nothing like the book and I didn't like the whole idea that it wasn't actually Aliyah's voice you hear, but her brothers. But what can you do when fate intervenes with life?

Also, I wouldn't sit through Driven again, if you taped my arse to a chair and threatened the life of my cat if I moved. That is the worst depiction of racing I have ever seen, and Stallone is no racer that's for sure.

Another one I wouldn't waste time on again would be Rollerball , I love Kris Cline, but DAMN! This movie reaked! My husband brought home the original version this morning from a friend at work, so I may have to check it out tonight.

The original is a different ball game (no pun intended).

Both written by the same guy, adapted from his 70's short story.

The original is the more violent of the two, but be warned.... it has a very leisurely pace.
