Hi everybody:)
I've never been a console gamer but it appears that LoKdefiance has yet to be confirmed as a PC title:( .
Since I reaaaaaaaaaly would like to play this game as much as everybody else here im going to be considering purchasing either an x-box or a ps2 if the game is not going to be available on PC.
I dont know anything thing about consoles and was wondering if any of you fine forum people would be kind enough to recommend which way I should go if it became necessary to purchase one.
Should i opt for a)PS2
or b)X-Box
Thanks for taking the time to read this:)

I'd personally recommend an X-Box, I own a PS2 as well but find the X-Box to be much better in terms of quality of games. Not to mention, the X-Box is still relatively up and coming while the PS2 will probably be on it's way out by the end of next year. I'm sure some others here will tell you different, but this is just my recommendation.

Although the XBox seems to have a better quality of games in regards to graphics (or so I've heard as I don't own one and don't plan to either), PlayStation has a much more extensive library of game titles. Plus the PS2 is backwards compatible, meaning you can play the old PS one games on it.
I believe Sony will be unveiling its next gen system at E3. PS3 maybe? So Playstation is not going anywhere. It will be here for a long time to come.
You're buying a consople solely for this game? well you can't loose out whichever you buy. here's my unbiased view for both consoles (I only own a PS2 but am considering buying a USA xbox for defiance and the 2 other games on the console worth getting)
PS2:
1. you can play SR1, 2 and defiance on it. while the original is pointless if you have the Pc version SR2 has extra bonus stuff worth buying the game cheap for to see.
2. you can play final fantasy games!
3. the pad is better for the game IMO (I aint used a xbox S pad only the GIANT one)
4. better game library. did I mention final fantasy?
Xbox:
1. the graphics will be nicer most likely
2. you can save to the Hard drive I think so no expensive memory card is necessary
3. If you're a PC gamer then there are probably more games you would enjoy (like halo2 and doom3)
4. you could render someone unconcious with the thing it's *that* big.
5. xbox live.
6. 4 controller ports.

I've got all three of the current consoles.
If I were to recommend one, it would be the PS2. The XBox has graphics that *can* be better (but not necessarily), but the PS2 has the most good games for it. That's all that matters, really.
The only reason I'd recommend getting an XBox (besides if you have the money for both) is if it has an exclusive you really, really want to play. I've got Halo and Steel Battalion for mine, for example.

I someone remembers the last topic bringing this up, please post a link, it wasn't that long ago. My choice for you would be PS2. You want my reason, check my post on the link.

But I must say, the controller might be big but it feels better than all other controllers.
But thats my taste
I would go for the Xbox but seriously There is no way to say wich one is better its all about taste, if you like RPG's alot buy a PS2 and if you like more action games with a nice story buyt a Xbox(onyl buy a Gamecube if you love playing kiddy games [yes I hate GC])
But if you are gonna buy the PS2 be warned...PS3 coming up soon.

There are a lot of good games for the Gamecube - Eternal Darkness and Metroid prime are exclusive to it, and I've also got Dead to Rights and BO2. None of those are "kiddy" games.
The XBox is actually my third choice out of all three, but it looks like the Cube isn't an option for Defiance.

I would honestly purchase a Gamecube before I purchased an XBox myself. (I have the PSX, PS2, SNES, NES, DC, Genesis, GBA, already).

What, no Atari??
I have a PS2 and I love it. Very rarely do I see a game that I like so much I'd switch consoles. And besides, who's hands really fit around an X-BOT controller comfortably?

Go for the PS2. It has got the largest game selection.
The differences in graphics are not that big.
Graphically good looking games: It is more important who makes the game, than which console it is made for.
(BTW. I got all 3 current consoles aswell, and for some reason I`ve always been particularly fond of my little Cube.) :D

haha hail the ataris!! I got one somewhere... I have to get a proper adaptor for it. Used to love that thing!
Anyways, the Xbox is generally cheaper than PS2s. If you're really big on DVDs then forget the PS2.... their DVD options mess up after a while. But don't get me wrong, my PS2 is my baby and I generally turn my nose up to the Xbox. Plus although the PS2 has a wider range of games, Xbox games are cheaper. Or so I've seen back in Cyprus.. I don't know abt here.
As for the hard drive.. weren't Sony going to release a keyboard/mouse and hard drive for the PS2? The thing certainly has the capacity for it.

The hard drive is probably the most-delayed accessory ever. They've had working models since it was released (the debug systems include them), but you still can't but it.
I figure they're trying to find a way to prevent people from copying games to the HD and playing from there like has been done with the XBox.
In the US, the PS2 and XBox are the same price. I've seen games cheaper once or twice (BloodRayne and BO2 were $10 less), but that's not generally the case here.

ah alright ... makes sense. You know how fanatical Sony are with copywriting.
Here in the UK and Cyprus, the Xbox is waayyyy cheaper than the PS2. I mean ever since it came out, the price has dropped dramatically... most likely cause it wasn't selling as well as they hoped.
Well plethon, it really is up to you... just buy what you fancy :P

I wish to thank everybody that posted advice to me one last time-
I have just ordered an xbox it should be arriving in the next few days- hopefully i have made the right choice;)--------- hehe i was almost about to buy a ps2 instead but since im only gonna be using the xbox as a dvd player (till defiance comes out) i plumped for the xbox. Besides it will be nice to know that if burglars break into my house i can club them to death with an xbox:D
lol!
you're gonna hate me for this but:
you have to pay extra tyo play dvds on an xbox.
I also hear that there quite a lot of dvds that don't work on it. I could be wrong mind. I don't have one myself afterall. well not yet. might trade in my gamecube for one if a few more decent games come out

I think you made the right decision plethon:)
i have both Xbox <-dec 02 & PS2 <- a week ago,my only reasons for the PS2 so far have been to play king's field IV,Shadowman 2,nfs-hp2 & gran turismo 3[can't wait for gt4 online :D]almost forgot bout tomb raider....hehehe.Otherwise i don't see any reasons so for for wanting a PS2 over an Xbox.[Lots of games means nothing,i don't have the time for lots of games:p] I think PC rules:p
- I do want to ask 1 question bout this, since i have all the LoK games for PC,which games run better/faster/clearer/sharper? sr2 & bo2 for xbox or PS2? What are the differences if any OTHER then controller.
As of yet i have none for either system & am wondering if there's any advantage of getting the console versions? THX in advance:)

Well, there's really nothing to compare the PS2 version of SR2 to, seeing that the PS2 was the only console it was released on. Overall it runs alright, IMO. You run into a bug or two now and then (such as the birds outside the Dark Forge for example).
BO2 was great for comedic purposes on the PS2. It reminded me of an old Godzilla movie, where the voices aren't synched properly. There were a few graphic problems here and there too, as well as some codes that caused bugs (reaver sticking out of Kain's shoulder from time to time). Other than that it ran pretty well. The minor problems didn't really hinder my gameplay experience, however I am sure a few others will disagree. ;)
I've barely heard of any complaints about the Xbox version of BO2.
I actually prefer most of my games on consoles myself. (I have about four PC games - three because they were only released for PC and one because I figured I'd get more of my money's worth purchasing it for the PC).

THX:) Umah
so i guess they're all the same then ......not like nfs-hp2 which was superior by far on ps2 vs xbox/pc:(
I happen to like the playstation for 1 main reason--> More buttons. From what i remember in sr1,it used the aditional L2/R2 & L3/R3[Push down analog] sticks. From what i can tell the xbox seems to have L3/R3 but i haven't seem a game utilising it:( [NO L2/R2 on Xbox:(x10]

From what I've played on the Xbox, I prefer the smaller controller as opposed to the bigger (and gaudier) one. It reminds me more of a PS2 controller.

i have all the consoles and a pC. and out of all of them i think the X-Box is better.
The X-Box not only has better graphics but it also has better handaling for games.
If your thinking of a PS2 because it has more games think again.
Microsoft is trying hard to put out a lot of games so i think X-Box will eventually have more.
