doupe.cz had an interview with The chief designer of C3
get it here (http://www.doupe.cz/PChry/AR.asp?ARI=103473&CAI=2169)

"Doupe: According to information from your development studio, your game will hit the stores in summer 2003. Do you plan to release a playable demo before? When could we expect it? And also, at what development phase is Commandos 3 right now?

I.P.D.: We have 70% of the game developed. We are finishing the last maps, and putting a lot of time on gameplay balance and the multiplayer. The game will be ready by the end of September and we expect to have a demo ready sometime this Summer."

Thanks for sharing, @m.

We do not plan to reduce the difficulty but just make the game more accessible through tutorials, an affordable learning curve (Commandos 2 first mission was already very difficult) and rewarding the player so he/she can see a progress through the game.

Say what? I wonder where did he get that idea?

The "time to beat a mission" is not the way I (personally) measure difficulty. It took me roughly a day or something to beat Coldiz the first time I played it. Not because it was hard but because it was relatively large map and there was a lot of routine work involved (kinda sneak->knock out->gag->hide body->repeat).

One thing that was poor was the manual. Other games and simulations of equal complexity have far larger, more detailed manuals. The basic 1st mission at the sub base is an example of sleeping pill use. The manual simply tells you that they knock out people and dogs when used in wine or meat. Well, duh! It doesn't tell you how to click the dope over the bottle or meat to poision it. We all stumbled around with this and the other non-explained things before getting it right and got killed a zillion times while learning. Tying up enemies had 2 different explainations of key use. Going by the manual was wrong. Accidentally we all found out. No where does it say that by hitting shift and enter together toggles off the health and backpack intrusions on the screen.

While the game is extreemly cool and well thought out a newbie has lots of frustration with the learning curve by trial and mostly error. It's the lind of thing that makes people give up and put the game on the shelf. Hopefully C3 will improve in this area.

Figures that even if it was done in June they'd wait for the Christmas release season.....

it would be quite appropriate if they would release it for x-mas :)

In an interview with a dutch game magazine he said that Commandos 3 will be easier than Commandos 2 as it was too hard for the casual gamer and most casual gamers never finished the game because it was too hard for them.

I still think that this is incorrect. I mean that the reason that so-called casual gamers didn't finish the game was not because it was hard but because of the lack of the decent tutorial and manual. There were people here, AFAIK, who only realized that they can pick up bodies and search enemies in the middle of the game.

I highly doubt that Perez himself would give out false information. He also said the whole engine is new unlike the planned conversion of the C2 engine and that the maps will be more detailed but a bit smaller than in C2 but there will be more than 20 instead of 10 missions.

I tested C2 for Combatsim.com and HAD to figure it out to write the review. But as Xcomsays the manual and lack of tutorial sucked. There are just too many "secret" moves that aren't outlined in the manual. Gagging bad guys was a debacle with 2 contradicting instructions in the manual. I accidently hit keys to find the right way. The 1st mission I tried like 75 times to get through it. How does Inferno scan for mines? How does Spooky use officer uniforms? Manual doesn't really say he can mingle with the enemy it only talks about using uniforms and not being detected at long distance. I ran Das Boot 1st several times just gunning it out with the goons. I never found the 2 AT mines near the derilict vehicle in Private Smith till I read someone on these boards talk about them. After all why would there be mines on the other side of the wire? Yeah sure, I know all the stuff now and when C3 comes I'll be with it , but to the new player it's a frustrating jumble with all the commands and all the equipment involved. I never did figure out how to make Inferno use the tank gun in Paris?!

As far as difficulty levels go EVERY game needs at least 3 levels so newbies can get adjusted and go higher if they want. How many folks completely new to any game would try 75 times to get through a primary level? Certain things on higher levels are unreal just to make it difficult like the slow down of weapons fire. The Colt .45 and Luger fire as fast as you pull the trigger like normal level. Most gamers complain about realism in simulations and games yet no one complains that rate of fire sucks in higher levels.

Commandos is a well thought out game. If you've ever noticed just about any commando can progress on the map. Goons are looking away part of the time, shadows work for you, stairs have places at the top to hide you when you go up and there are many ways to approach each mission. I just hope C3 puts it all together so everyone can generally be satisfied.
