View Full Version : Claymation raziel!!!!
I'm making a claymation raziel for a current uni project. He's still very much under construction but should look pretty good (hopefully) once I'm done. Do any of you want me to post some pics of it once I'm done? I should be done sometime on sunday (seeing I'm in the UK it'll be early sunday to you americans.
I'll make it a poll I suppose as it actually makes sense to make one for once (I HATE polls but here goes)

The suffix “mation” indicates motion, as in “animation” - animated movement.
What you're working on is a sculpture. You're going to get peoples hopes up.
Unless of course you actually are animating it via stop-motion.
But yes, please post pics. =F
He's well on the way now. He's a lot bigger than I hoped. Just realised I need some black for his hair which is gonna be hard to get hold of.
he weights an absolute TON and is taking up a lot more clay than I hoped. I ran out of blue already and he needs his back, spine and legs all doing. I also need to get some more brown for his arm and a little of his cloak. I have just finished the first arm and it's a little big really but it's too late now. He should look right once he's done
As for animating it:
I don't have the facilities to do this (i'm on a year 0 art and design at the moment and start the degree in animation in september so I can't really access the claymation facilities yet)
If I was to animate him next year I'd make a kain to go with him so they could have a lil fight :D

Ditto i can't see them either.
I know. the links doen't work, sorry. I'm new to all this putting pics online business. I actually tore the whole thing apart and started again because it was going so wrong so those pics are meaningless now. I'll have some finished pics up on either tomorrow or monday now because I had to start again.
ah the joys of a wasted day...
the new one has a new skeleton and everything and is much smaller (it's gone from about 10-12 inches to about the same size as my raziel figure)

Are you going to make a clay reaver for Raziel?
I thought about making a reaver but I don't know how good it'll look. if I have the clay over I might try to but the whole not being translucent is putting me off making him one for fear of it looking rather stupid. THe 2nd attempt is shaping up as lot better. he's much lighter so far and his proportions are much better.
the tattered wings are going to be a problem but I'll get to them once I'm happy with the rest of him (take into account this is my first (well second) attempt to do something like this. I'm usually a 2D drawer! I've been forced into the 3D group till friday so I'm trying to do something fun)

Oooh, I wanna animate something! Of course I don't have any clay so it's going to have to be CG. And even that is hard because I only have MS Paint and nothing to animate it with...
Sorry but the pics are gonna have to wait till tuesday/wednesday now. I have completed everything apart from the legs and polishing up any marks and scuffs to the torso.
He's on hold until tomorrow at least though as I need to show my tutor a decent amount of work on this project for him to accept my proposal for my clay (raziel) final piece. Basically I need to make as many jointed parts as possible rather than bothering about how good it actually looks (as he thinks it's wasting time)
Anyway. I won't bore you with this anymore. I Promice I'll do everything in my power to gets pics here by friday. He's only about an hour or two away from being complete

Yay fneh!!
He's ALMOST done. He only needs his wings amd a little neatening up. My tutoe at uni is really not wanting me to do it so he's not as good as I hoped he would be (I can't afford to spend as much time on him as I scheduled) but I'm still kinda pleased with myself. Not sure what you lot will think (I want you all to be HONEST with your opinions if you think it sucks...just don't go too hard on me please. It still took a lot of my time I should have spent doing work I'll actually get decent grades for)
I think you'll all agree that he'll look a lot better with a (wraith blade) reaver attached to his arm but I just don't have the time to implement this just to make myself happy.
anyway. He'll be complete sometime tonight and I'll get the pics taken in the morning (my digital camera has no flash so I need REALLY good light for the pics to even come out, otherwise the pics would be coming within the next 5 hours.

Wheee! VW wants to see!
I emailed umah the pics so she can put them up with links that actually work (thank you again umah).
I was in a rush to get him to uni ni time this morning so there aren't that many pics and the ones I did take are pretty fuzzy and badly framed (thank my digital camera for not having a flash and being so bad in general for that.) but if you all want I can get some better pics after I get him back (on monday).
I hope you all like it
(I wanted to do more work on him but my tutor didn't even want me to finish it at all so I might improve him in my own time. I'm open to any suggestions any of you may have to make it better)

Bugger me Fneh. Thats fantastic. I love it. Woohoo for Fneh everyone!!!!
erm umah? link 1 and 3 of the finished raz are the same pic instead of the close up of his head.
No big deal of course the one there shows everything everyone needs to see.
As for everyone's comments Thank you. You're all being a lot nicer (for lack of a better word) than I imagined. I was expecting most ppl to start with "well it's alright but if you....."
anyway. thank you. I'd still appreciate any suggestions (even if it's to make other characters (which I might do come june when I break up from uni). I'm tempted to try a BO2 kain and umah in a smaller scale using better materials)
...but I'm not gonna complain about all this praise! *blushes*

wow! Great job fneh! It looks like you put a lot of hard work into it, unless working with the clay just comes easy to you. :)
It'd be great to see more of your work!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIII!! That's amazing!
*gawps*
well like I said the first attempt was a disaster so I just learned from my mistakes. The head sculpt and everyting pretty much came straight to me. This is the first time I've done any 3D work since I was 11.
Thanks for the praise. Not sure about making a physical reaver as the scale is so close to the toys I already have. (I'd just rob kain's reaver)
But as for making a DEMON!!!!???? that would take a lot of talet I don't yet have (as much as I'd like to see that though. Didn't really think of it myself but the idea is great. I'd need LOADS of high resolution pics and stuff so I got it right)

I wounder how much Clay it would take to make a life size Raziel:confused:
any i've got the coolest idea you should try fneh see if you can make clay figures of the entire cast of LOK. you've already got a really cool Raziel and with your skill i'm sure it would be a piece of cake
can you tell i'm obsessed with this clay figure thing???
*** and the piece of cake is choclate****

LIFESIZE????? that would cost a few hundred £££ each character and take up WAY too much room. Making a skeleton out of full size wire would be VERY hard for me and cost a lot of money (I'd need to be able to weld and use heavy duty wire)
Assuming I didn't make a skeleton and actually used clay instead of plasticene to sculpt one a full size one would need to be made in bits so it would fit in a kiln. I could make a fullsize bust in clay which is something I'd like to do (but there's already those other busts that are professional quality. I'm a mere novice at sculpting)
I might do something over summer. When I start my animation degree in september I'll have access to lots of good facilities so anything's possible really.............apart from life size clay models!!!
