With the upcoming Indiana Jones game, will Lara have met her match?

Well, Last Revelation wasn't as good as Infernal Machine IMO. AOD and Emperor's Tomb both look amazing but it's hard to call. Guess we'll have to wait and play both.

BTW, it's unfortunate that the new Indiana Jones game is being released a month early on XBOX. I hope there isn't that much of a gap between the PC and PS2 release of AOD.

I have to say that Lara would prevail mostly because she is so cool. :p

I loved Lara until Tomb Raider 3, but then she was getting a little bit "old".

Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis was one of my childhood favs, but I'm afraid Jones won't be man enough to make it in the modern gaming world.

Indy will NOT prevail, even if he tries, hes just gonna be another washed-up-ass-kicked-by-lara-person. lol jk, he's almost as good as her.

I've played the Emperors Tomb, its fun and is something to do while waiting for TR. The controls are kind of clunky and stiff compared to Lara. Indy uses his environments in great ways like, smashing a chair over someone head! When Indy is shot he acts like he was. Even though the game was fun I believe TR will be better.

How bizarre....I've just been to a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" site where they had the very same poll....but the results were the complete opposite!

How is this possible?

Yeah Lara definitely but I'm hoping that Indy will still be very good. I want to play both. :)

While Angelina is more attractive, I think that Harrison Ford is a better actor. He played in a lot of movies, and he did get a lot of applauses... On the other hand, Angelina is just a pretty new actress who plays in many action movies... She makes nice moves, but does she act as realisticly as Ford? Not really. The art of acting is to seem realistic, now Angelina is good, but is she realistic? NO. In my opinion, Indiana Jones (the movie) is better than the TR Movie (think of it - TR is more like a short action movie...). But the games are another story... Lara kicks ass in games!!!

Couldn’t agree more with you Frugo.

Infernal machine was actually good game, bad controls yes, better than TR I don’t know, but IM had very interesting story line and nice graphics when it was released, which I can’t say for many TR games.

The Indiana Jones game looks far more impressive graphically than Tomb Raider, I mean, Lara has rectangular fingers! So far I've seen much more outstanding and innovative features for the Indy game as opposed to the Lara game, things like Indy being able to whip someone around the neck, pull them towards him and smack them over... things like shooting down german fighter planes... things like losing your hat and going back to pick it up!

However the AOD storyline I must say sounds far more intriguing, but then again Indy is meant to be comical and b-graded. At this stage the only reasons why I'm buying AOD is that a) the graphics look much better this time around and b) Lara's a cutey.

Needless to say I've pre-ordered both games and am waiting for them impatiently.

Hey!

They ARE redesigning the TR engine, right?

Maybe they fixed Lara's fingers?

(I hope)

Does anybody know if they are/will make the meshes for lara's hands more realistic?

By the way, cool Indy pic Mr. Deflok. I've never heard of an Indiana Jones game, but it sure sounds cool.

It looks like the fingers are going to stay rectangular:

http://www.tombraider.com/wallpapers/3_800x600.jpg

It's a pity, it would not have cost too many polygons and I doubt it would hinder on any performance issues. I suppose in a way it stays true to the original Tomb Raider's.

But despite my qualms I still can't wait for this game :D

Your TR wallpaper gave me an idea, so think about this for a moment: your Indy pic and the Tomb Raider wallpaper you just posted (like so many others on my computer) are alike in one way: they are both idealized concept art meant to promote the new game (actually, I don't know for sure about your Indy pic). Take, for example, the wallpaper of Justin and Lara standing together in a "lets go get them" posture (available at www.tombraider.com). This probably won't happen for the exact reason that it would be ridiculous in regard to the storyline. It is computer generated promo art.

But further evidence can be offered by Tomb Raider III. I haven't owned all the TR games, but one of the ones I have owned is the budget PC release of the TR III India levels. The title screen shows Lara standing on a backdrop that illustrates the reentry of the meteor that the entire game centers around. Her fingers look like yours or mine. However, if you were to use the TRviewer to open a TRIII level and look at the meshes for Lara, you will see that her hands are square. Of course, you knew that (obviously) but it makes a good point.

I went to www.tombraider.com and looked over the AOD screenshots they have posted. There are many that show Lara with hands that are not bricks, but I have picked what I thought were the three that best illustrated both sides of the issue.

This one falls into the category that supports the Lara-has-new-and-improved-hands argument, but it is possibly a cut scene. It shows Lara and a guard with human-like fingers.
http://www.boomspeed.com/xacifura/07-for.jpg

This one also supports the new hands argument, but is less likely to be a cut scene.
http://www.boomspeed.com/xacifura/15-for.jpg

Finally, a screenshot that shows Lara with what seems to be square hands. However, this may be because of the gun she is holding.
http://www.boomspeed.com/xacifura/11-against.jpg

Bottom line: I don’t think we’ll know for sure until AOD comes out.

Hopfully we'll know soon!:D

I don't know to be honest. the last Indy game played out too much like a TR knock-off, but this coming one does look quite good. No thanks to Microsoft, the PS/2 version is delayed (sick of delays) until God knows when, so the odds of the two games directly competing against each other on the PS/2 is very slim.

Lara will always be on top. And there's a simple reason for it, she's the most popular gamebabe that has ever lived. Even my grandmother knows her, and she doesn't know anything about games or computer.

Three words: ex-cell-ent!

Excellent link, Mr.Deflok! This has really rejuvenated my interest in AOD!

http://www.leipzig.primacom.net/~e6031529/index112.htm have screenshots that even the official Tomb Raider site (www.tombraider.com) has not posted!

OK, not to seem cold-blooded here, but with the obligatory partying out of the way, I have a question:

How is this possible?

The official TR site is, as far as I know, the only source of AOD screenies. Where did the people at http://www.leipzig.primacom.net/~e6031529/index112.htm get theirs?

Maybe they either work at Eidos_Core or have an official (or unofficial--think James Bond:D ) source inside one of the two companies?

Does anybody know?

Incidentally, some of the shots I saw almost definitely came from actual gameplay, which proves for the eager Raiders (there are many of us) that the TR engine is, at least, mostly finished and that there are at least some levels built.

THE END IS NEAR! (CONFETTI)

From what I can read (german I take it :D ), it seems like the newer shots came from a video that was broadcast on a cable channel (see the description from the site).

Screenshots aus dem TV 4 Gamers-Interview mit Lara aus den USA !

I'm looking forward to Indy, but I have a feeling AOD will come out on top judging by recent previews. Can't wait!

We got the new Indiana Jones game today at eB, I've already paid for it but I can't take it home until tomorrow since the release date is then, so unfair!!!

I'll let ya know first hand how good a game it is once I get my greasy geek-boy hands all over it.

The new Indy is an extremely good game!!! Excellent graphics, cool story, amazing animation and superb level design! All the exploring elements through exotic locations is top-notch, something I've missed since Tomb Raider II.

Lighting is average, Indy himself projects great shadows but all other shadows seem to be static and they're not cast by objects sush as chains and ropes unfortunately.

All in all (and so far, only on level 2 now) this is an excellent game, one not to be missed by Tomb Raider and Indy fans alike, besides, AOD is still months away so why not keep yourself occupied?

p.s. the landscapes are beautiful!

Umm, does it have a level editor? Also, what's it called?

What places are the levels set in (Egypt?:p ).

Mr.Deflok

Ceylon
Prague
Hong Kong
Istanbul
and a few others, not too sure though.

No level editor YET.

Interesting point about the Prague level, in AoD there is a section of the game in Prague, so it looks like we can draw a direct comparison between the two games when AoD hits the shelves next month.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll buy the game sometime (Indy).

Gotta be specific. wouldn't want my fellow Raiders to think I'm a...

gasp...

(sound of brain stalling. Ok, whats a good phrase for someone who hangs out on the Eidos TR forum, but has never played the game and is just pretending to be a real human being):p

PS: no offense to people who haven't played the game yet, but are hanging auround here because our forum looked interesting, or who came off an Eidos sister forum.
