View Full Version : Mapmaker sadness

I got a map off the timesplitters2.net page called "Rapid Fire" by dmferrari14 and tried making it on my GC version of the game. The map couldn't handle the turret guns because they take up almost 1/10th of the total space each. Is this a GC fault or what? Also, when I put in lots of windows, sometimes it says no more than 20 can be used and sometimes it says 30. I've also had problems with the game freezing when I play custom built maps and things like being teleported to another part of the map for no reason and teleporters themselves not actually working.

I know what the answer to my next question will be but I want to ask it in the hopes that I'm wrong. Can you allocate extra memory on your memory card to make bigger maps?

If only it could have been more detailed...

If only it could have been more detailed... Well, i can't answer your first question other than to tell you to copy and paste your tiles rather than going back to the tile screen and rechoosing the same tile as this saves memory space.

As for allocating more memory, you're out of luck. It's not about the memory space on the memory card; rather it's about the memory that the processor requires to make the level. The bigger the level, the more processing is required to hold the framerate (60fps), thus you cannot allocate more memory on the memory card to deal with the problem.

The only thing that I can suggest is to double check that you're not using different tiles than the map suggests (example: the small T uses less space than the small corner.)

Also, try my two maps on that site (Bunkers and KOTH). They fill the memory to the top and they've never frozen on my cube.

Mikeytoons: you're allowed 20 doors and 30 windows in any one map

spanks: your kinda eager to get people to build your maps aren't you? I made them both; I'm not really a fan of KOTH (the gametype), but I made a map heavily based on bunkers and it rocks. Maybe I'll give it the editmap treatment one day:)

P.S. Can you describe what you did to bunkers in words?

No.

:) Well, I figured not many people would use the top route, (or did I read the map wrong?), so I made the top level smaller and added double SBP's and a max damage for each team - tell someone to stand there and pick people off running below.

I also had some problems with memory - I have a tendancy to go overkill on the amount of guns and start points (I discovered you can only place up to 32 start points in the process :))
