Someone just posted new details from the latest issue of Game Informer magazine (US):

- Don't expect much of the old linear platforming formula. "We're now giving the player the opportunity to go into a space and choose their own path. Where we take you across the ledge of the B-52 bomber, that's a tutorial. Once you move away from the plane, everything is basically open, dynamic traversal where the player has the freedom to roam around a jump from location to location with ease..."

- You'll be able to air steer, direction control, speed her up/down during jumps

- The game has an XP system. You'll be able to use this for upgrading Lara's abilities. You'll also have to scavenge for materials to upgrade Lara's equipment

- The base camps will allow you to upgrade Lara's abilities, improve your equipment and fast travel to other base camps that you've visited on the island

- Early on you'll only have a few options to upgrade Lara, such as giving her the ability to carry additional arrows for her bow or increasing the speed that she's able to shoot the arrows. As you continue the system will open up and allow you to shape her abilities to your playstyle.

- The context-sensitive actions are one-off sequences. For example, the scene with Lara stabbing the wolf is only going to happen once in the game. They say that if you do it right the first time it'll have an impact.

"There is linearity to the story - you have to go from point A to point B - but there's junctions in between where we want the player to feel like they're real explorers." These are described as non-linear hub spaces that you can come back to at different times of day.

It sounding alot more RPG-ish that it at first seemed but that certainly doesn't have to be a bad thing. I am sure the upgrades system will be way better than 'I feel stronger now'.

Awesome! Sounds very cool. Maybe this will finally shut people up about Tomb Raider being like Uncharted. Uncharted is nothing but linear. This semi open world theme is very reminiscent of old Tomb Raider games where you can explore the environment.

Thanks for posting, wonderpho.

Do you have the real source to link to, though?

I rather not see links here to that....uhmm....interesting forum

NeoGAF members always post scans and articles from magazine. That forum is very trustworthy for that kind of news.

And GameInformer earlier posted that they have exclusive Tomb Raider info:

Yay! We knew we'd have an RPG aspect but I love the fact that there are different branches to suit to out playstyle!

i like the sound of the scavenging but not really about buying upgrade with xp points, would rather see that she finds better equipment while the story evolves at locations like we find the relics in past game.

I don't know, things like sharper arrows doing more damage seem awesome to me :D Or something like that :D You know what would be awesome, kinda in an RPG fashion? That you can talk to the survivors while you're at the hub or something (like being on Normandy in Mass Effect) and they give you news and stuff :D For example, you talk to the scientist dude who tells you that he discovered a new herb which in turn gives you better health packs and stuff like that :D

Hehe, well said! :D
The experience points sound cool, maybe it will be necessary to replay the game couple of times in order to unlock all the upgrades. It's a common thing to do in action games. I wonders if it's going to work out in TR.

That forum provided beneficial for developers as many developers have admitted to looking at the forum for feedback and some developers have even signed up on the forum and posted there for. For example Cliff Bleszinski from EPIC Games has been posted there before. Beside biggest gaming site like Gamespot, IGN get information from that forum to post a news. :)

I seriously doubt that IGN get their info from such sites they probably have way better sources and contacts with developers.

I agree, NeoGaf is a trusted source and many game devs actually read the forums for reliable feedback.
I can't vouch for the IGN, GameSpot etc statement. That's the first I've heard of it.

Although I do wonder where the members of NeoGaf get their info. The TR info appears to have been posted by a regular member.

Having a level up system where you can have much more customisation over the direction you take Lara is really great. I hope it does mean that players can adapt their combat style and that it can offer rewards to encourage you to explore areas deeper.

That's great news! more interesting value, improving the one we desire Lara's habilities with the XP points and the weapons! :D

I like the idea too of exploring as we wish in open environments, that it's a great value (Assassin's Creed style) that make the game longer! :D

Yes but this is 2012. Rumors somehow come true. Even the TR delay rumor finally comes out as true. :p

yeah but believing rumors or twisting it to say its for sure is very dangerous since a lot of people will get upset when it turns out it is not going to happen. I myself am just waiting for official details we get from our community manager Meagan or by official press releases.

I've heard of this game before but I wasn't interested because I'd thought it's just UC with a girl, however the new infos made me excited for TR because I love the RPG elements, exploration, wildlife ...

As for the rumor about the new Splinter Cell being called Blacklist, it's now officially confirmed by Ubisoft.

I think someone needs a lesson in statistics :p

What you posted so far here proves absolutely nothing about the so called "reliability" of neogaf.

Only rumours that end up being verified are remembered. The hundreds or thousands of other rumours that stay exactly that, rumours, are quickly forgotten.

Very true.

It is exactly the likes of the earlier posted IGN article that creates unnecessary drama for the fans.

If big news sites would just stick with the facts and not try to harvest more traffic with sleazy tactics like we've seen in the recent "attempted rape" controversy, then we would all be off a lot better.

Tabloid "journalism" doesn't make any website "reliable". Quite the opposite, actually

I don't get it? Why you have to bring back old stuff like one month or two months! This post was two months old, and just got that infraction for a 1 month old post! Looks like some people are too lazy!

95% rumors now-a-days are true. And that rumor from IGN/NeoGAF(my quoted post) was also true. The new Splinter Cell is really called Black List. A lot of people get news/stuff before it outed officially. Here's an example what Alex Hutchinson, director of Assassin's Creed III, said yesterday in an interview to IGN:
The games industry is terrible for secrets, and I’m kind of bored of working on things where everybody’s seen everything before we launch.

And for the record it is rumor, not rumour.

Nothing wrong with responding to a 1 month old post. Members do it all the time and there is no rule against this in our TOU. In case you're interested in why I did, you may read my latest post in the Humble Abode.

You are lucky I am stick skinned, so I will ignore your "lazy" remark. However, I would advice you to adjust your manners, as you have already been warned about your behaviour many times before, even by Meagan. Although we are lenient around here, we do not tolerate rude behaviour over an extended period of time.

You have received your first official infraction today for your earlier forum TOU violation. Keep this up and one of us may have to issue a time-out. I hope it does not have to come to that and that it will stay with the 1 infraction, though.

If you wish to discuss this further, take it into PM. The public board is not the place for members to discuss administrative actions.

And for the record it is rumor, not rumour.

Both "rumour" and "rumor" are correct; one is British English and the other is American English.

I read this last week or so. My brother-in-law is subscribed to GameInformer. Nice article. He thinks I'm a derp for wanting to keep the magazine as collecting. He just reads the interesting stuff to him and throws them away.
