View Full Version : Why I'm not griping about AOD's latest delay/ Smart decision for Eidos

Think about it. The new TR movie is coming late spring/early summer, right? If it's marketed well, then that means a surge of public interest in the Lara Croft and the TR series. If the AOD game is hyped up at the same time, then that would most likely bring gamers to see the movie, while the movie might get its viewers interested in playing the game. It's a win-win situation for both Eidos/Core and Paramount.

On another note, Paramount Kings Island is making changes to TR:The Ride for the upcoming season in concordance with the movie/game releases.

The ride program itself is being changed so that the ride time will be longer (5 minutes as compared to last season's 1 min 30 sec) and much more speed and intensity. The ride's theming is being completed (yup, that's right- last season it was halfway complete!), and the pre-ride queue line movie is being changed to include scenes from the new movie. I got all this info from one of the TR:The Ride crew members, and he assured me that all of the above was definitely in the works.

Hype and advertising doesn't always mean success. Remember Godzilla and Josie and the p***ycats? Besides, if the movie gets less-than-favorable reviews and the game is tied into it, then the game will be hurt by the movie instead of benefitted by it.

Not to mention how TR will compete against the Matrix: Reload, Terminator 3, X-Men, and several others. Since at least X-Men and Matrix will also have supporting games and very few people have infinite wealth to buy every tie-in product, it will only be harder for them to sell the game with the movie than by itself right now while there's still not much out.

LOL, so the succes of AOD depends on the succes of the movie.

This sucks!

If AOD is a good game, it doesn't need the movie!
When they are so unsure about how good the game is, they can better eat nuts in the jungle and forget the whole AOD thing.

AOD will be old even before it comes out...

Well they missed the projected boost that comes from the christmas sales period so now it looks like they're trying to sell a few more copies through association with the flick. Simply cannot let the game try to sell itself you know...

Maybe it's time to start clamouring for a demo. If the release is going to be around April now then something must be done to keep our interest up (are we owed anything for having another wait slapped on us?) -- and a neat little demo (even if it's missing some spfx/moves/most of the guns) might assuage our indignant ranting and wailing and gnashing of toes. :p

Honestly, a demo isn't that hard to come by. If they were close to being finished before, they now have enough time, if we're lucky, to release a demo.

I'm not really disappointed about this delay, as I never have really been anticipating the game. Yes, I'm looking forward to it, but the release date always seems to be the same length away to me, as it's usually the furthest thing from my mind during the day. So when a delay comes by, that wait doesn't seem longer or closer..

They could release the demo from E3

I don't think that when TR AOD comes out is very important to it's success. After all you still have people playing TR I.
If it's a good game then it will be played for a long time.
If it isn't, then, well, it's probably the end of Lara Croft.
You really can't blame them for wanting to make it as good as possible.
(Fingers crossed), I'm hoping there is no problem with the game engine that requires a massive rework and/or subsequent patches.

What really bothers me, and what should be bothering you is this whole promotion and consumer thing, with big biz running the show. No one likes being used.

The superior vessel takes a long time to complete. (Zen saying.)

They dont release a demo because they are afraid we think it sucks so we don't buy the game. So we must buy the game to see what old crap it is when it comes out.

I agree!!:) I don't mind them taking forever to get the game perfect. I think they should take their time and get it right. But can they please stop telling us it's coming out when it's not. Just when you think "only a month to go" and it's safe to get excited again they cancel.

Makes you wonder what's gone on though doesn't it? A couple of weeks ago that PR guy was saying it's definitely coming out in Feb and now....who knows when...

I do agree with the whole "big biz" thing. But I would also rather look on the positive side rather than mope about the game being delayed. Which would you rather have, a game that's buggy because it was rushed to meet the deadline, or a game that turns out to be worth waiting for?
Keep in mind that Max Payne was in the works for about 5 years.

I'd rather have a buggy game. Sometimes they can be used to your advantage, like the "unlimited items" glitches in some of the FF games. Besides, we don't know if it's delayed because it was buggy because they're not giving specifics as to what they're doing to it while it's delayed.

Yep this is good,
For 1. They don't have to feel so presured by any time date, right now there probibly still hard work at it of coruse but the burden is probibly less.

2. The movie is comeing out and that is a great way to stir up some intrest in Lara again sense the long wait of not haveing anything new. But Eidos, we all love you, do you doubt that we wont buy AOD!? lol

3. If we are patient then maybe some of our requests will be added to Lara croft tomb raider Angel of darkness :D

We're, well ok I'm, with it 100% Eidos and Core!!! just please, let it come out this year

I agree whole heartly with delaying a game until it's done (bug free).

But just because a game is five years in development doesn't mean it's going to be successful. Can you say "Daikantana"?

And who published that one?????
