Okay, to stick to the Forum Rules, I wont delve too much into it. Karl didn't want to have live models for the new franchise.. But can i just ask how the hell a p:whistle:rn got through to be produced?? Why would they allow rights to Tomb Raider to be produced into an "xxx parody" entitled Tomb Raider? That's so not Lara, and if the rights weren't acquired I think CD/Square Enix has a lawsuit on their hands. It's so degrading to Lara, and imo the fans (or at least me) I wont post a reference, but if you just type in "tomb raider" on google news... top results are about the p*rno movie.

It wouldn't be the first time that the adult movie industry has taken copyrighted works up to task. People look away from original xxx content as well as rights-infringing xxx content because of the same taboo. I doubt you'll see very many people feel like something should be done about it. Smut exists, and so do people who will pervert the things that you know and love. You don't have to watch the porno, but I disagree with you that any sort of action should be taken against the industry for producing it. That is not the society that we live in.

OMFG that trailer is awesome, btw.

LaraRocks2, what are you talking about? Where on earth did you get the impression that CD supports that porn movie?

If you look at the first couple of seconds of the (SFW) trailer...

L7z1zRxyt_o

...you'll notice a clear statement that CD has nothing to do with it, nor even endorses it.

Also, what's the big deal about this? If you think this was the first time in history that a porn movie stars a Lara Croft character, you're mistaken.

Yes, a movie like this is degrading of Lara. Does it reflect CD in any way? Unless you can link to a public statement where Karl gives his thumbs up to it, then NO.

BTW, LMAO @ terrible acting

Lol, I wasn't accusing Karl of supporting this tripe, that's why I said in my first post, wouldn't it be possible for CD/SE to get a lawsuit against this because it is using and advertising with the namesake of Tomb Raider? Correct me if i'm wrong but i thought there was this thing called "rights acquisition" that is usually required to produce copyrighted material... and yeah, i normally dont watch Lara Croft porn... not gonna lie lol so i'm sure there have been others. but still why isn't there a lawsuit or something? And  acting? can you even call it that?

Yes, I would say that since that movie used the actual title "Tomb Raider" they are violating copyrights.

If it's worth suing them, though, is another question. Who knows, perhaps CD going after those "film" makers might even get their movie more media attention and I'm sure that's the last thing CD wants

I don't plan to watch the trailer, but daym those boots and gun holsters look nice!
Wouldn't mind getting myself a pair... (Not that I can wear them :( )

But yeah, porn, nasty stuff. Seems like a stupid idea to let them get away with it... Most of us grew up believe Lara was a dignified woman, and then you get this.
If CD don't sue for copyright, they should sue for disgracing a public figure... (There's a posh word for it but ya know)
But yeah as Driber said, it probably would promote them... Super-injunction anyone?

I mean, it's Chanel Preston. Couldn't they have gone with - oh wait. I don't know any of these people. Nope! Not me.

The trailer just had me laughing. I know that many people will say how awful it is to have Lara like that. It's blatently a parody and nobody is going to be daft enough to believe this is the Lara from TRU. Look up a sexy female fictional character and there's a good chance there will be a porn spoof out there somewhere (not that I do or am recommending anyone on here to do).

That's not to say I like Lara used in this genre but it doesn't surprise me the film exists. On the positive it shows the makers thought Lara was still very culturally relevant and viewed by enough men as sexy for them to select Lara as the theme. I wouldn't watch it myself but I wouldn't get hung up on it's exsistance either.

There is no chance anyone at Crystal endorsed it and TR has always known where the line is. Take the last cutscene of TR2 and the line 'Don't you think youv'e seen enough. An epic moment: funny, sexy, cheeky, shocking yet actually defines so clearly a point that TR wouldn't cross. The Japan dress is the same for CD's Lara. A good dose of sexyness is vital to making any Lara and the thing I would blame Karl very heavily is if they went too PC. With getting rid of this film intervention may be like scratching a spot. You get the majority of it gone but it could actually spread it more and motivate those who support it. CD/Eidos have to tread rather carefully to handle this one.

Parody is legally excepted from copyright law in the US at least, and I'm pretty sure most other places, too.

The actual title, you will note, is Tomb Raider XXX: An Exclusive Films Parody, NOT Tomb Raider. Is that enough of a difference to count? Might be splitting hairs in court to suggest either way, but any attempt to sue will surely just bring a ton of publicity to this film that none of us would want. When 'Parody' is explicitly part of the title, though, it must be pretty awkward to argue that ordinary people might mistake it for a proper TR film.

As several others have already said, where there is a cultural icon of any kind there are bound to be porn movies and probably a ton of them. It's completely pointless getting upset about it.

@EK: splitting hairs? Hardly.

We're not dealing with a parody here, we're dealing with a porn movie.

Parodies are made for humour or satire, while porn movies are just made for the money, plain and simple.

Any intelligent judge would understand that, and would see through this producer's transparent attempt to bypass copyright laws by calling it a "parody"

Damn that chick is HAWT! :)

Yeah, porno happens all the time, based on existing franchises.... Star Trek, Star Wars, just about any scantily clad superheroine (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Psylocke, etc...) lots of 'em.

I have to admit, I'm amazed they actually used the Tomb Raider title....most pornos based on franchises usually alter the title some how...so this was pretty ballsy.

And in truth, no one really knows what Lara Croft does behind closed doors, not even the players. :)

Although I agree with you, unfortunately since the title specifically says "porn parody" (which makes what they're doing legal), it doesn't matter what unsaid intentions are present. The fact that they said parody in the title automatically clears them from any copyright infringement. Any argument that a parody wasn't their true intention when it blatantly says it in the title won't hold any weight in court. :/

That trailer was horrible, btw. Jewel Raider at least had real stunt actors in it and used a gymnast stunt double for Lara's fighting. If anyone is interested in what a quality made TR porn looks like (if that's your thing), then go spend your money on that instead. As for me, this Lara porn stuff is disgracing to Lara and I'm not a fan of it... but I do enjoy the fight scenes.

People, it's a PARODY! Doesn't matter if it contains sex or not, it still counts as a parody!

Ofcourse, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't judge the sex part, but just by looking at the trailer it looks like a goofie, funny parody to me :)

Jenn Croft is exactly right. If taken to court, the porn maker can swear blind they honestly intended to make a parody (That just happened to be porn as well) and that's that. End of case.

I was reading an article on a computer games website the other day that said this was quite a common practise amongst porn movie makers. No idea how true that is, but it makes sense.
