View Full Version : Framerate drops at seemingly random intervals.

Hello,

I experiencing odd framerate drops, turning the graphics settings down doesn't seem to help as much as it should. I will be walking around with a solid 70fps, and suddenly my framerate is 40 fps. My big complaint about this, is I think it's more like im getting 70 fps and then a couple very slow frames, and so it's more like I go from 70 to 20fps and then it ends up reporting 40-45 in fraps. I have played plenty of games at 30-40 fps that seem to be a better experience. I feel like this immersive game would be much more so if I could get a consistent frame rate. I have tried the latest two AMD graphics driver updates but neither make a difference. I feel like my system has sufficient horsepower to run this title smoothly with a consistant 60+ framerate.

Here are my specs:
8gb DDR3 1600 RAM
Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.7ghz
AMD 6870
120 GB Gskill Pheonix Pro SSD

My biggest concern is the game definitely seems to be using about 95% of one of my cores, and 25% of the others at most times. My gpu usage rarely exceeds 70% with vsync on. I am just very curious as to what the bottleneck could be.

Thanks,
-Miles

Are you sure you're not just experiencing the notorious stutter bug? (look to the stutter thread somewhere below. The big one with like 60,000 views).

If not, sorry to say that you're kinda buggered regardless. You're right; your system should run the game perfectly. The bottleneck isn't yours, it's the game's; the engine is just a bit crap. In the stutter thread, if you haven't already seen it, there's a lot of discussion about the game failing to utilise multiple cores properly etc.

We're all still holding out for a decent patch...but these forums have gone rather quiet on both the player and developer front, so who knows. Most of the players, I suspect, have pretty much given up for now. I only hope Nixxes are still trying.

Well, I don't have any trouble with the audio, I am now speculating that the "stuck frames" may be happening when the game is trying to stream a new area. Many open world games stutter a bit when they are streaming a new area, it just seems that having the game installed on an SSD and 8gb of fairly fast ram should mitigate that significantly.

Seriously man, read the stutter thread.

You're right; level streaming events are causing the stutter. Like I said; the engine is crap. It has been discussed in great length.

Frustrating I know (I still can't really play the game due to a severe case of these stutters) but people have tried everything.

All we can do is hope that a decent patch arrives before the year is out.

Although, Jay/Nixxes whoever: Please Take Note.

Here we have ANOTHER person experiencing the same issue, who clearly wasn't aware that they fell under this category, or simply hasn't popped up on these forums before.

This problem is more widespread than you guys were ever willing to admit.

Thanks for your response Prod, I did look through that forum and yeah, it seems to be covered there. One thing I found interesting, is I bought a GTX 480, and the stuttering seems much less pronounced, but not gone. I went from a 6870 with the latest drivers to 480, and I don't know if it's just the 20-25% performance bump, or more optimized drivers, but the frame loss seems less prevalent. Hopefully we see a new patch soon that addresses this issue.
