One day, poor Gummie promptly arrived at work as usual, only to be sent off by the nasty boss man to do a job all on his own. He had nobody to talk to, nobody to laugh and joke with, not a single soul to sit next to during lunch. Poor Gum got lonely, so decided to play a few games with himself (after pondering long and hard about what he would have for supper).

The alphabet music game (which was an old favorite) lasted less than an hour...The imaginative spending of next months pay packet was over before first coffee break...And trying to name all of the American states came to an abrupt halt at 36! :(

Poor Gummie needed to think of new cerebral challenges, so after his first coffee break (and the minor distraction of untangling a chalk line), he set his mind to the task in hand.

A full 5 minutes had past, when suddenly Gum's mind began to race: Films that would get made if I had any say!!!

I'll skip the moral of the story and head directly to the main question...

You are sitting in your own private cinema, with an endless assortment of snacks and beverages. Each of the films about to be screened have all been made for your personal enjoyment only, but what will they be?

1 Film based on a video/computer game/series: Cannot be Thief
1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc...:
1 Film based on a film that has aready been released: A sequal/prelude/other angle etc...
1 Remake: A film that you had such high hopes for, but inevitably disappointed...Or maybe could be done better now.
1 Film shot purely for the cinematic clout of it:
1 Film made just for the slogan: "In space noone can hear you scream" etc...
1 Film that defines your generation:
1 Film that is even more dire than Raise The Titanic:
1 Film to rule them all:

Ok...I'm still working on my list as I want to be sure I haven't been too hasty in my decisions...Plus, I need to have something to think about if I am left all alone again.

Please feel free to elaborate on your decisions and add preferred cast, director, producer etc...Be serious or play it for laughs...But at least give us a title. :)

Oh...And if anyone can think of a moral to my little story, then please do share. :D

I'll play. :D

1 Film based on a video/computer game/series: Colossal Caverns "In The Hall of The Mountain King"

1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc...: Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement, Movie same title.

1 Film based on a film that has aready been released: Released film: Circle of Iron New film: "Cord" The story of a brash young martial artist who matures and becomes the teacher and master replacing the master he followed.

1 Remake: The Hobbit. Both earlier versions sucked big time.

1 Film shot purely for the cinematic clout of it: Documentary on Machu Pichu and the High Peruvian Cordillera

1 Film made just for the slogan: War film WWII Genre, "Loose Lips Sink Ships". Being the tale of a sabatuer German spy. This person (Peter Lorre) hangs around the bars in the areas of San Diego, and San Francisco (travels between at intervals) collecting information from the sailors and servicemen who talk too much and passes it to U-boats off the California coast.

His opponent (spy catcher) is Alec Guiness who plays a part similar to Audley in the Anthony Price spy novels.

1 Film that defines your generation: "The Inbetweeners" A movie about those who were born during WWII, and ended up too young for Korea, too late for the Beatniks, too old for the Hippies and Vietnam.

1 Film that is even more dire than Raise The Titanic: Dire is the question here. Dire means dangerous, threatening, or deadly. If you mean Dreary, or lackluster or poorly done, then... Need a little explanation on this one.

1 Film to rule them all: "The History of the Conquest of Mexico and Peru" from the book of the same name by William H. Prescott . A twelve hour faithful filming of the events of the Conquistadors invasion and decimation of the natives of both countries.

For those not familiar with the book(s) (sometimes printed as two volumnes) or the author. William Prescott was a blind historian. The volumne under discussion gives an unbiased view of the conduct of both the invaders and the natives. There is no moral judgement or prejudice shown for or against either. The book reads as easily as a novel, but is a masterpiece of historical documentation.

1 Film made just for the slogan: "In space noone can hear you scream" etc...: It Came From Another Dimension, With A Lust For Kittens

Bravus - when was your Birthday? Mine was Jan 8th...same as Elvis but different years. I didn't get any cake though...

1 Film based on a video/computer game/series: Half Life, its a good story, Gordon Freeman and the Black Mesa. Lots of baddies.
1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc...: Inherit The Stars by James Hogan. It's about finding a dead humanoid on the moon in a space suit with alien technology. Not unusual but the spaceman dates to be about 50,000 years old.
1 Film based on a film that has already been released: A sequel/prelude/other angle etc... The Hobbit
1 Remake: A film that you had such high hopes for, but inevitably disappointed...Or maybe could be done better now. Outbreak. The book, The Hot Zone was so good and they ruined it in Outbreak. Plus I cannot show it in school due to the language.
1 Film shot purely for the cinematic clout of it: Jeremiah Johnson. I want to ride that land.
1 Film made just for the slogan: "In space no one can hear you scream" etc... How about Pitch Black. Just saw it on TV and it was creepy and I'd scream if there. I may have misinterpreted this too. How about Spock always saying "Fascinating" with a raised eyebrow.
1 Film that defines your generation: Hair
1 Film that is even more dire than Raise The Titanic: Moulon Rouge
1 Film to rule them all: What else…..Lord of the Rings….all of them

I may have misinterpreted this catagory; 1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc...: Inherit The Stars by James Hogan. As far as I know, there is no movie made of this novel but there should be.

Just FYI.

Howie, although I used a real film for one of my answers, the theme was supposed to be "films that would get made" if you had any say in the matter.

The "cinematic clout" film does not have to be religious. That's just my personal bent. :)

Hi littlek

It wasn't actually my birthday, it was my daughter Alex's. Hers is January 4, but we had the party a week late so she could invite the kids from school. Sue made a cake in the shape of Hedwig the owl from Harry Potter, and I was finishing that off...

Happy birthday to you! Have we stopped celebrating birthdays in the forum?

I guess some of you didn't quite understand what I mean't, but some interesting choices there.

Blackie - Over here (or atleast in my area), dire is often used as a substitute for a swear word to describe something that is utter pants. ;)

1 Film based on a video/computer game/series:Well originally, I opted for The Secret of Monkey Island. But after thinking about it more, I realised I wouldn't want to see the series (or the characters) in any other format, so I chose The Chaos Engine. Its an old, amazingly stylish Amiga/PC steampunk shooter, that would make a cracking Jules Verne style action/adventure romp. Has to be done oldschool though, with Ray Harryhausen providing the stop motion nostalgia, and a score by Bernard Herrmann.

1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc...:If I asked myself the same question a few years back, I would have said The Lord of the Rings without so much as a pause. But now that wish has come true, I'll choose House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read, and so strange and thaught provoking, I can only think of David Lynch as Director.

1 Film based on a film that has aready been released: A prelude to Roman Polanski's Chinatown that tells the original story of what acually happened to Jake (Jack Nicholson) that was hinted at in the film.

1 Remake: Jonny Mnemonic. The original film (based on William Gibson's short story) could have been fantastic...But it wasn't. Drop Keanu Reeves and Ice T, draft in Ridly Scott or James Cameron to direct, and now that CGI has come of age, show me the monowire death scene that I can picture so well in my mind. :D

1 Film shot purely for the cinematic clout of it: Dragonlance. A faithfull representation of all three Chronicles novels.

1 Film made just for the slogan: "Loose Lips Sink Ships". Sorry Blackie, but after reading your entry, I would want to see the film too. Ofcourse my film would be a slightly different *ahem* tale. :D

1 Film that defines your generation: My Stepmother Married A Video Game Junkie.

1 Film that is even more dire than Raise The Titanic: My Stepmother Married A Video Game Junkie.

1 Film to rule them all: Bravus has the right idea. Neuromancer it is. Again probably Scott or Cameron to direct, and Autechre would have to do the soundrack.

1 Film based on a video/computer game/series: Omnikron:The Nomad Soul. And David Bowie would actually play the same parts he played in the game (David Bowie is the bomb). Charlize Theron would play Kayl's wife, Kayl would be played by Jean Claude Van Damme(sp?)...hmm. Bowie would do the soundtrack, too, including instrumentals (and Reeves Gabrel (sp?)). Kevin Smith would direct it, I hope.

1 Film based on a single book/trilogy etc... : The Tripods Trilogy.

1 Film sequel to Film already made: The Big Lebowski 2, Dude.

1 Remake: Clash of the Titans, I completely agree with Howie. It would have to retain that wierd special effect where it seemed that their movements were fast forwarded, kinda (I remember that devil boy had it). Shots would contain more aesthetics (attention to detail, inserted geographic shots). Spielberg would direct it.

1 Film shot purely for the cinematic clout of it: It would have to progress from Merlin's birth to Arthur's birth to (Arthur's son's name here)'s birth. The Holy Grail, individual knight tales, and such other gallantry would be involved as well. Nothing would come close to its magnificence.

1 Film made just for the slogan: Got Milk? (heh) A young boy goes on a fantastic journey searching for milk, along the way he stumbles upon dancing cows, breast milk, and a black eye.

1 Film that defines your generation: Half-Waked. The lives of college students with no money, no food, and no self-discipline.

1 Film that is even more dire than Raise The Titanic: AE Biography on Leonardo DiCrapio:D

1: Deus Ex, complete with all thre endings(like they did in Clue).

And, uhm, I dunno... I don't watch enough films to come up with answers for the others. :o
