[PC] Can't change dialogue options in first mission?

Hey guys,

I'm new to Deus Ex, I played through the first mission after I am given my enhancements.

First off all the hostages died because I was too busy exploring my office (I like to explore in RPGs so this was a little annoying). Then when I got to the end of the mission I entered dialogue with the guy and he ended up killing the final hostage outside.

I tried loading a save I had before the dialogue to try again, but alas i was forced into every option i picked previously, i didn't even have the choice of switching.

Finally I decided this all started so badly, i'd just make a NEW game.

So i started a new game, rushed into the mission, saved the hostages, but I had the SAME PROBLEM with the final guy, I could not select any different dialogue options, it just picked what i did in my OTHER game.

Isn't this a bit much? This is an RPG right? In my experience I want to save the hostages (if it's possible) but i'm not even being given a chance to try and do this. Is there some way I can 'reset' this conversation at the end so i can try different options?

Well if i remember correctly the game quick saves just before that convo (if it doesnt make one youreself) if the convo doesnt turn out the way you like, simply reload the save and try again ?

I couldent resist to reload myself and save the hostage .. and got it the second time

Hint: Sympathize for a bit then reason with him

yeah that's the problem though...

If i load a saved game, the dialogue just... plays out. I am not given any options to select from, it just uses all of my previous options from before so the outcome is always the same.

Is there anyway to "reset" this convo so i can pick what i want to say again?

- See my first post, I even made a NEW GAME and it still selected the same options, giving me no choice in the matter.

Hmm sounds like a bug to me .. i had to pick each responce/reaction every time i went into that scene - ive played it a few times and not once did the game pick them for me.

Hmm you should definitely be getting options regardless of saving etc.. definitely never heard of the game just playing out the convo skipping the selections.. this on pc? u got a controller plugged in but not using?

Yeah it's on PC, i'm not using a controller. Actually it's basically a brand new PC so there isnt much on it right now and definitely no mods or anything like that for the game.

I'm playing through Steam if it makes any difference.

U can only play it legally thru steam :)

hm definitely never seen that before.. its like a key sticking or something in that its just picking something too quick for u to see
