I was extremely disappointed with it.

It follows the predictable shoot and slash routine that made "Devil May Cry" as flat as it was, offering nothing new in the way of gameplay or innovation, and I wasn't terribly impressed by the character animations either.

There was no reason why it should take 500 more bullets to finish off the main bad guys each time other than it seems 'traditional to do so'.

A huge missed opportunity.

Thank you for the information Dave, I attempted to download the demo, however I was put off because of the mandatory personal information that the download site insists upon. I was going to wait for a cover disc, however I do not believe I will bother now.

You say why should it take more bullets to kill the main guy, that sounds all too familiar with all game I have played so far of that genre. ;)

It is indeed....he is a 'boss' just for the sake of being a 'boss'.

'Max Payne' got away with it by saying the bosses there were pumped full of drugs, and other games use the 'supernatural powers' excuse.

Which is why I like 'Splinter Cell'...there are no boss levels, just some that are far more challenging for other reasons than most.

It is funny though, that movie bosses are usually disposed of pretty quickly, as it is the bosses side kick who is the hard one to beat.
Personally I would rather play games that were more true to life, instead of making them appear longer by wasting your time shooting rounds and rounds of ammo for no reason.
It reminds me of the first space simulator games like 'Star Raiders' etc. with moving star fields; you would have to go pretty fast for them to appear like that. :D
Hmm, I appear to be gliding off the path somewhat. :D

Indeed BloodRayne is cool and the only way to find out is to
try it for yourself because everyone has different tastes.
I thought the game was fantastic and Dave didn't care for it.
Everyone has different tastes in what they look for in games or
movies or whatever.

I do know that mulder was very keen on it when he started playing it, but was ultimately disappointed.

The thing that was ultimately dissapointing for me was after finishing downloading the 170MB demo, every time I tried to play it after installing I got a blue screen (http://www.motogrrl.com/humor/bsd.html) with some cryptic error message and got dumped into the desktop. That's with a 500MHz CPU, GeForce2MX with 64MB RAM, 256MB system RAM.

1st level...good, 2nd level...slightly better, 3rd level ...more of the same..., 4th ..even more of the same....and so on ad nauseum...

I liked the premise of the game initially....but quickly got bored with doing the same thing over and over....

Biggest diss was the fact that it had PS1 graphics.....

I too initially liked Devil May Cry.....but soon grew tired of level after level of the exact same thing......not one level different from another......

Game designers need to teke a lesson or two from John Carmack and American McGee....and think "outside" the box.

...Or be bold and try taking a lesson or two from Warren Spector.
